These productions, supported by the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM), premiered at the prestigious event, highlighting the region’s vibrant film industry.

"Mit der Faust in die Welt schlagen" (Fists Raised in the Air)

In the "Perspektive Deutsches Kino" section, "Mit der Faust in die Welt schlagen" (Fists Raised in the Air) by Constanze Klaue captivates audiences with its poignant narrative. Adapted from the novel of the same name by Lukas Rietzschel, the film explores the complexities of family and identity in a transforming post-unification East German landscape.

Set in the early 2000s, the story centers around two brothers grappling with their lives in a rapidly changing region. As the world around them evolves, they seek solace in the vast wilderness, searching for their own path amidst the social and economic upheaval.

"Paternal Leave"

"Paternal Leave" by Alissa Jung makes its debut in the "Generation 14plus" section, showcasing the coming-of-age journey of 15-year-old Leo. Raised without a father, Leo embarks on a quest to uncover his identity, leading her to the wintry shores of northern Italy.

This heartwarming tale explores themes of family, acceptance, and the complexities of relationships. Filmed partly in Dessau-Roßlau, Saxony-Anhalt, the film captures the raw emotions and transformative power of discovery.

"When Lightning Flashes Over the Sea"

"When Lightning Flashes Over the Sea" by Eva Neymann transports viewers to the resilient city of Odessa, Ukraine. Amidst the ongoing war, the film paints a poetic portrait of its inhabitants, capturing their unwavering spirit and determination to carry on with their lives.

Despite the constant threat, Odessa’s community finds solace in repairing the historic cathedral, celebrating birthdays, and seeking moments of joy. Through stunning visuals, Neymann’s film pays tribute to the city’s resilience and unwavering hope in the face of adversity. Premiering in the "Forum" category, it offers a poignant reflection on the human condition in times of conflict.
