New York Yankees Minor Leaguer Hospitalized After Allergic Reaction

Tamoa, FL. – New York Yankees minor league pitcher Eric Reyzelman was hospitalized on Thursday due to an allergic reaction. The 23-year-old non-roster invitee was taken to a local hospital in Tamoa, Florida, around 10 a.m. ET after experiencing respiratory issues, according to NorthJersey.com.

Reyzelman’s Allergic Reaction

Reports indicate that Reyzelman’s reaction was likely triggered by a peanut allergy. The Yankees team spokesperson, Jason Zillo, confirmed that Reyzelman would be kept overnight for observation and that an update would likely be provided on Thursday. The exact cause of the allergic reaction remains unknown.

Reyzelman’s Minor League Dominance

Despite his setback, Reyzelman has impressed scouts with his dominant performance in the minor leagues last season. The right-handed pitcher boasts a fastball that reaches up to 99 miles per hour and has a deceptive changeup.

In 38.2 innings across three minor league levels, Reyzelman compiled a remarkable 1.16 ERA. He allowed only four hits and struck out an impressive 26 batters while pitching for the Florida Complex League Yankees and the High-A Hudson Valley Renegades.

Reyzelman continued his dominance with the Double-A Somerset Patriots, allowing just five earned runs and 14 hits in 23.1 innings. He added another 37 strikeouts to his tally during that stint.

Yankees Bullpen Outlook

Despite Reyzelman’s impressive minor league pedigree, he faces an uphill battle to make the Yankees’ opening day roster. The Yankees’ bullpen is considered one of the best in the league, featuring two-time All-Star closer Devin Williams and playoff star Luke Weaver.

Other pitchers vying for bullpen spots include Ian Hamilton, Tim Hill, Mark Leiter Jr., Jonathan Loáisiga, and Fernando Cruz.

Opening Day Preparations

Opening Day for the New York Yankees is set for March 27, when they will host the Milwaukee Brewers at Yankee Stadium. Reyzelman’s availability for that game is uncertain due to his allergic reaction, but he will undoubtedly be hoping to recover quickly and make a strong impression on the coaching staff.
