Xavier Worthy Faces Protective Order Following Domestic Dispute Arrest
Kansas City Chiefs rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy is embroiled in a legal battle following a domestic dispute earlier this month. A woman has filed for and been granted a temporary ex-parte protective order against Worthy in a Williamson County District Court in Texas. The order comes in the wake of Worthy’s arrest on charges of assault against a family or household member.
According to court records obtained by the Austin American-Statesman, the protective order was granted on Wednesday. A temporary ex-parte protective order is a measure that can provide immediate protection to an individual, typically lasting for a period of up to 20 days under Williamson County regulations.
The woman’s lawyer issued a statement to the Statesman outlining the basis for the protective order. "Today, [the woman] filed an application for a protective order against Xavier Worthy, based on his violent actions against her culminating on the night of March 7, 2025," the statement read. "Based upon the truthful information provided… a judge has granted a temporary protective order on her behalf. She is fully cooperating with law enforcement as they continue to actively investigate the violence that occurred that night."
The protective order was issued nearly a week after Worthy’s arrest in Williamson County, Texas. He was charged with assault against a family or household member by impeding their breathing or circulation, a serious allegation that can carry significant legal consequences.
However, Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick declined to press charges against Worthy at the time of the arrest, citing discussions with multiple witnesses. Despite this decision, Dick’s office has reserved the right to file charges at a later time if warranted by new evidence or developments in the investigation.
"We will continue to evaluate the case," Dick’s office stated following the decision not to immediately pursue charges. "As is our practice with all declines, should you develop additional information indicative of probable cause in this case, our office will consider that information and may present the case at that time to a Williamson County Grand Jury."
The legal proceedings surrounding Worthy’s case are complex, involving both potential criminal charges and the civil matter of the protective order. It remains unclear whether the temporary ex-parte protective order will ultimately lead to criminal charges being filed against Worthy. District Attorney Dick declined to comment specifically on the protective order, instead reiterating that his office would continue to work with the Sheriff’s Office on the follow-up investigation.
Worthy’s legal team has vehemently denied the allegations against their client, characterizing them as "baseless." They contend that Worthy was involved in a dispute with the woman, who they claim refused to leave his home. Furthermore, Worthy’s lawyers accuse the woman of scratching his face and causing damage to his property.
In a statement to the Statesman, Worthy’s lawyers asserted his innocence and addressed the civil court filing. "We are aware of the civil court (not criminal court) filing by (the alleged victim) and her criminal defense team. Mr. Worthy denies each of the allegations," the statement read. "Unfortunately, false allegations continue to be made, this time in civil court. Today the accuser returned items stolen from Mr. Worthy’s residence while he was in jail and there are items still missing from when he was incarcerated. Mr. Worthy maintains his innocence and stands by the conclusions of the District Attorney after law enforcement’s review of (the woman’s) unfounded allegations."
The dueling narratives presented by the woman’s legal team and Worthy’s lawyers highlight the complexities of the case and the conflicting accounts of what transpired on the night of March 7, 2025. The fact that the woman is represented by a criminal defense team suggests that she may also be anticipating potential legal repercussions arising from the incident.
The allegations of theft and property damage leveled by Worthy’s lawyers add another layer of complexity to the situation. These accusations could potentially lead to further legal action, depending on the evidence presented and the decisions of law enforcement and prosecutors.
The case has garnered significant attention due to Worthy’s high profile as a newly drafted player for the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs have not yet issued a formal statement on the matter, but the organization is likely monitoring the situation closely.
The legal proceedings are ongoing, and it remains to be seen how the case will ultimately be resolved. The temporary protective order provides the woman with a degree of legal protection for a limited time, but the long-term outcome will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation and the decisions of the District Attorney and the courts.
This situation underscores the seriousness of domestic violence allegations and the importance of due process in the legal system. While the woman has been granted a temporary protective order based on her allegations, Worthy maintains his innocence and is entitled to a fair and thorough investigation of the claims against him.
The coming weeks and months will likely see further developments in the case as law enforcement continues its investigation, witnesses are interviewed, and evidence is gathered and analyzed. The decisions of the District Attorney regarding whether to pursue criminal charges will be crucial, as will the outcome of any civil proceedings related to the protective order.
