"Kudamm": A Global Phenomenon from the Heart of Berlin
The ZDF drama series "Kudamm" has become an international sensation, with episodes of "Kudamm 56," "Kudamm 59," and "Kudamm 63" now sold in over 30 television markets worldwide, including Australia, Japan, and the United States. This remarkable success was announced by ZDF Studios ahead of the MIP London industry event.
As the global marketplace for television productions and content convenes in London this weekend, ZDF Studios will commence the global distribution of the fourth season, "Kudamm 77," currently in production.
"We are naturally already in contact with all customers who have purchased the previous seasons," stated Markus Schäfer, Managing Director of ZDF Studios.
Producer Nico Hofmann attributes the series’ international appeal to its universal themes: "The series resonates worldwide, even though the Kudamm in Berlin remains its topographical center. It is a story about the power of women, emancipation, and the drive to create – which is more relevant than ever in our aggressive world dominated by male autocrats."
Currently filming, "Kudamm 77" features a stellar cast including Sonja Gerhardt, Claudia Michelsen, and August Wittgenstein. The series continues to follow the Schöllack family and their dance school, "Galant."
MIP London marks a new chapter for the industry event, which previously took place annually in Cannes, France, since 1965. "Our first event here will be somewhat more compact than the MIP fairs on the Côte d’Azur, but it will also create synergies as other important events, such as the London Screenings, are taking place nearby," explained MIP London Director Lucy Smith.
Despite the change in venue, MIP London remains a critical marketplace for film, television, documentaries, and entertainment content for TV and streaming platforms. From Sunday onward, approximately 2500 media executives from over 80 countries will gather to explore the latest offerings.
The enduring success of "Kudamm" is a testament to the power of storytelling that transcends cultural boundaries. Its themes of female empowerment, resilience, and the pursuit of dreams resonate with audiences around the globe, making it a truly international phenomenon.
