Berlin and Brandenburg Brace for a Sunny but Cold Winter Day

Bitter Cold Start with Frost and Subzero Temperatures

Residents of Berlin and Brandenburg can expect another day of sunny but frigid winter weather. The day will kick off with biting cold and frost, with lows ranging between minus 7 and minus 11 degrees Celsius. In some areas, temperatures may dip even further, according to the German Weather Service (DWD).

Warming Up in the Morning

However, the chill will gradually dissipate towards midday. High temperatures are forecast to reach between 2 and 4 degrees Celsius, accompanied by ample sunshine. Clouds are expected to gather over the Prignitz and Elbe-Elster regions from the evening onwards.

Icy Conditions at Night

Caution is advised on the roads during the night, as falling rain may freeze in some areas, creating treacherous black ice. Temperatures will drop to a minimum of 1 degree Celsius in the Prignitz and minus 3 degrees Celsius in the Niederlausitz.

Glatteis Persists into Friday

The risk of black ice will continue into Friday morning and early afternoon. Afterwards, the DWD predicts a layer of mist. High temperatures will reach a milder 7 degrees Celsius at the Polish border, 10 degrees Celsius at the border with Saxony-Anhalt, and 9 degrees Celsius in Berlin.

Cool Night, Dry Weekend

Overnight into Saturday, temperatures will cool to between 3 and minus 1 degree Celsius, with no precipitation expected. The weekend will start on Saturday with clear and dry weather, with highs ranging from 9 to 13 degrees Celsius.

Tips for Staying Warm and Safe

To stay warm and safe during this cold spell, residents are advised to:

  • Dress warmly: Wear multiple layers of clothing, including a hat, scarf, and gloves.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure: Limit time spent outdoors, especially during the coldest hours.
  • Heed weather warnings: Stay informed about the latest weather forecasts and alerts.
  • Drive cautiously: Reduce speed and increase following distance on icy or snowy roads.
  • Protect pipes: Take steps to insulate exposed pipes to prevent freezing.

By following these precautions, residents of Berlin and Brandenburg can navigate the cold weather conditions safely and comfortably.
