Snow Before You Go: Weekly Snowfall Update for Ski and Snowboard Destinations in the West and Northeast
Dreaming of a destination ski or snowboard trip in the U.S. or Canada? Get ready for fresh powder days! Here’s a weekly update on the total estimated snowfall at popular ski destinations in the West and Northeast, brought to you by OnTheSnow Meteorologist Chris Tomer.
Western United States
An active storm track is hitting the West through February 16, bringing in multiple storm systems and feet of grand total accumulation for ski resorts. "The pattern is loaded," says Tomer. Here are some highlights:
- California: Mammoth Mountain is expected to receive up to 12 inches of snow, while Squaw Valley and Northstar California are looking at 8-12 inches.
- Colorado: Vail and Aspen Snowmass are both in the 8-12 inch range, while Breckenridge and Keystone are expecting 6-10 inches.
- Utah: Park City and Deer Valley are forecast to receive 10-14 inches of snow, with Alta and Brighton getting slightly less at 8-12 inches.
- Wyoming: Jackson Hole is poised for 10-14 inches of snow, while Grand Targhee could see up to 18 inches.
- Montana: Big Sky Resort is expecting 8-12 inches of snow, with Whitefish Mountain Resort getting 6-10 inches.
Northeastern United States
The pattern is also loaded in the Northeast through February 16, with at least two different storm systems expected to bring heavy snow accumulation. Many Northeast ski resorts could see 1 to 2 feet (or more) of fresh powder. Here are some highlights:
- Maine: Sugarloaf and Sunday River are both forecast to receive 10-14 inches of snow, while Saddleback Mountain is looking at 8-12 inches.
- New Hampshire: Mount Washington is expected to get 10-14 inches of snow, with Bretton Woods and Loon Mountain getting slightly less at 8-12 inches.
- Vermont: Stowe Mountain Resort and Killington Resort are both in the 10-14 inch range, while Smugglers’ Notch is looking at 8-12 inches.
- New York: Whiteface Mountain is forecast to receive 8-12 inches of snow, with Gore Mountain and Hunter Mountain getting 6-10 inches.
- Pennsylvania: Blue Mountain Resort and Camelback Mountain are both expected to get 6-10 inches of snow, with Seven Springs Mountain Resort getting slightly less at 4-8 inches.
