Bavaria Prepares for Mixed Weather Conditions over the Weekend

As the weekend approaches, Bavaria braces itself for a dynamic weather pattern. While sunny spells are anticipated, the German Weather Service (DWD) forecasts a mix of clouds, rain, and even frost.

Wednesday to Thursday: Sunny Intervals and Cold Nights

On Wednesday evening, temperatures are expected to drop, bringing frost and isolated icy patches. The Alpine foothills may experience fog, while strong to gale-force gusts are predicted for the Rhön Mountains and the eastern Mittelgebirge until noon. Daytime conditions provide a welcome respite, with ample sunshine and only mild frost in parts of Upper Franconia. Maximum temperatures will range between 1 and 5 degrees Celsius.

As night falls on Thursday, cloud cover will drift in from the west, obscuring the sun for most of the state. Only Lower Bavaria and parts of Upper Bavaria can expect sustained sunny spells. Despite the overcast skies, temperatures will climb slightly, reaching highs of 2 to 11 degrees Celsius.

Friday: Risk of Slick Roads and Scattered Rain

Overnight into Friday, several regions face a risk of icy roads. Light rain showers are likely in Lower and Upper Franconia, while fog may reduce visibility in areas from Swabia to Lower Bavaria. During the day, scattered rain is possible, primarily in Franconia. Otherwise, skies will generally remain clear, with maximum temperatures ranging from 7 to 13 degrees Celsius.

Saturday and Sunday: Fog, Sunshine, and Stormy Conditions

Dense fog is forecast for Saturday morning in Swabia and Upper Bavaria, obscuring visibility until midday. As the afternoon progresses, sunshine will break through in the south, with temperatures reaching highs of 5 to 14 degrees Celsius. However, clouds will continue to move in from the west.

On Saturday night, frost will return to the eastern parts of the state, including Upper Bavaria and the Alpine foothills. By Sunday midday, light rain and overcast conditions are expected to prevail, followed by more sunshine from the southwest. Maximum temperatures will hover around 7 to 12 degrees Celsius. The Rhön Mountains and the Alps may experience isolated wind gusts.

Overall, Bavaria’s weekend weather promises a blend of sun and showers, with temperatures fluctuating between mild and chilly. Motorists are advised to be cautious of slick roads, especially in fog-prone areas.
