Warning: Potential Contamination in Cheese Products

Affected Products:

The French government’s consumer recall website, Rappel Conso, has issued an alert regarding several batches of cheese due to potential contamination with bacteria. The affected products include Morbier, Raclette, and Tome au lait cru, manufactured by Fromagerie Perrin-Vermot in Cléron, France, between November 12, 2024, and February 18, 2025.

Distribution:

These cheeses have been distributed throughout France via various channels, including supermarkets such as Auchan, E.Leclerc, and Casino, as well as through direct sales and intermediaries.

Health Risks:

The recall is prompted by a health investigation related to the risk of contamination with Escherichia coli shiga toxinogène (E. coli). Consuming the affected batches of cheese may lead to acute symptoms such as abdominal pain and diarrhea, which can potentially progress to bloody diarrhea, according to the Institut Pasteur.

Previous Recall:

In January 2025, Fromagerie Perrin-Vermot had already issued a product recall for similar reasons.

Company’s Response:

"We know that our results are compliant. We hope to have the right to sell Morbier again soon, as our protocols are secure. We do not market non-compliant products," said Jean-Marie Perrin, director of Fromagerie Perrin-Vermot, in an interview with France 3 Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.

Precautionary Measures:

To ensure your health and safety, consumers are advised to:

  • Avoid consuming the affected batches of cheese.
  • Discard any remaining cheese from the contaminated lots.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces that may have come into contact with the cheese.
  • Monitor for any symptoms and seek medical attention if you experience any gastrointestinal issues after consuming any of the recalled products.

Additional Information:

  • The specific batches of cheese affected by the recall are listed on the Rappel Conso website.
  • Consumers who have purchased any of the recalled products are urged to return them to the point of purchase for a refund.
  • Further updates on the investigation and recall will be provided as they become available.
