Macarthur FC has confirmed that captain Valère Germain will leave the club to pursue his career overseas. The club announced his departure in a statement, with Australian media outlets suggesting a move to Japan is on the cards.
"It is disappointing that a player, a great player especially of the quality of Valère Germain, would become frustrated with Australian refereeing," said Macarthur FC chairman Gino Marra to the Australian Associated Press (AAP).
Germain, 34, has reportedly been summoned by Football Australia for making an obscene gesture towards a federation official during a league match.
Since joining the Bulls in 2020, the former Marseille forward has become Macarthur FC’s all-time leading goalscorer with 27 goals. He also played a pivotal role in the club’s Australia Cup triumph last season.
