A Common Scene, a Brewing Storm
The incident that sparked the latest round of tensions occurred at the local train station. Two young men disembarked from a TGV train from Paris and made their way across the station concourse with their luggage. Instead of hailing a taxi, they headed straight for a nearby car, which promptly sped away.
This seemingly innocuous episode encapsulated the growing resentment among taxi drivers in Moûtiers. "This is a daily occurrence," exclaimed Sam, a taxi driver in his forties. "We wait for hours to pick up passengers, and then they come out and head straight for an Uber. These Uber drivers have no respect for us, and they’re even provoking us."

Since the beginning of winter, confrontations and intimidation tactics have become increasingly common between taxi drivers and VTC (Vehicle with Driver) drivers operating through platforms like Uber and Bolt.

Taxi drivers in Moûtiers accuse Uber drivers of unfair competition, claiming that they do not adhere to the same regulations and standards as taxis.
