Legacy on Ice: A Poignant Tribute to Flight 1750 Victims

On Sunday, February 26, 2023, the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. will host a special tribute show entitled "Legacy on Ice." This event will commemorate the victims of American Airlines Flight 1750, which tragically collided with a military helicopter over the Potomac River on January 29, resulting in the deaths of 67 individuals.

A Touching Tribute

"Legacy on Ice" will be a poignant tribute to the lives lost in this devastating accident. Featuring performances by over 40 elite figure skaters, the show will weave together artistry and storytelling to pay homage to the history of figure skating in the United States. Additionally, the first responders, the victims, and their families will be honored in heartfelt tributes of remembrance.

The event will showcase a star-studded lineup of current and former U.S. skating national champions, including:

  • Michelle Kwan, a five-time world champion and two-time Olympic medalist
  • Scott Hamilton, a two-time Olympic gold medalist
  • Johnny Weir, a three-time U.S. national champion
  • JoJo Starbuck, a two-time world junior medalist
  • Rudy Galindo, a 1988 Olympic medalist
  • Linda Fratianne, a 1980 Olympic medalist
  • Peggy Fleming, a 1968 Olympic gold medalist

Raising Funds for the Families

The proceeds from "Legacy on Ice" will be donated to the families of the Flight 1750 victims and the first responders who worked tirelessly at the scene of the accident. The funds will be distributed through the Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation, the charitable arm of the organization that owns the NHL’s Washington Capitals, NBA’s Washington Wizards, and WNBA’s Washington Mystics.

"Legacy on Ice" will be broadcast live on Peacock, NBC’s streaming service, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. ET on Sunday, February 26. An encore presentation will air on NBC at 1 p.m. ET on March 30.
