Tyler Herro Wins 2023 NBA 3-Point Contest: Recap and Results

Tyler Herro Captures 2023 3-Point Contest Title with Less Preparation

SAN FRANCISCO – Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro, after an overly meticulous approach in his first 3-point contest two years ago, opted for a more relaxed strategy this year and emerged victorious at the 2023 All-Star Weekend.

Reevaluating the Approach

Herro’s meticulous preparation for his initial attempt in 2023 weighed heavily on his mind. This time around, he decided against excessive shooting drills, choosing to focus only on a single session on Saturday morning.

Adopting a Freestyle Mindset

Embracing a "let it fly" mindset, Herro entered the contest with a newfound freedom. "My approach tonight was just to come in and let it fly," he said.

Final Round Brilliance

Herro’s relaxed approach paid dividends in the final round. Going first, he posted a score of 24, including both Starry money balls (worth three points each). His steady shooting, including a six-of-seven stretch, proved decisive.

Hield’s Late Surge Falls Short

Golden State Warriors guard Buddy Hield, cheered on by the home crowd, needed to make his final five shots to secure victory. Although he started slowly, Hield made his first three on the last rack before missing the fourth. He sank the fifth for a total of 23 points, but it wasn’t enough to surpass Herro.

Herro’s Statistical Dominance

Herro’s victory adds to his impressive season, which includes his first All-Star appearance. He is averaging 23.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists while shooting 46.5% from the field and 38% on 3s.

Heat’s Roster Shakeup

Despite Herro’s individual success, the Heat are experiencing some turmoil. They traded Jimmy Butler to the Warriors and are currently ninth in the Eastern Conference with a 25-28 record. However, Herro remains optimistic.

3-Point Contest Legacy

Herro’s triumph marks his first 3-point contest title. He joins an illustrious list of winners, including Larry Bird, Steph Curry, and Damian Lillard.
