Sharon Osbourne’s Regret: Denying Ozzy’s "Pirates of the Caribbean" Audition
Sharon Osbourne, 72, has opened up about a decision she deeply regrets: dissuading her husband, legendary rocker Ozzy Osbourne, 76, from pursuing a role in the popular "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise.
During an appearance on Billy Corgan’s "The Magnificent Others" podcast, Sharon candidly revealed the missed opportunity. "Do you want to know the biggest mistake I ever made with Ozzy?" she asked the host. "He got offered to go and read for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’… I’ve never said this to anyone, and I said no."
Sharon’s reasoning at the time was that she didn’t believe it was a suitable role for her husband. However, upon reflection, she realized the error of her judgment. "Now wouldn’t he have been perfect?" she lamented.
Corgan enthusiastically agreed, adding that Ozzy’s unique persona and stage presence would have been a perfect fit for the swashbuckling adventure series. Sharon pointed out that Johnny Depp had sought out Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones to play a pirate, further highlighting the potential for Ozzy’s involvement.
"He would have been perfect! Maybe it’s not too late, but God bless," Corgan replied.
While Ozzy’s audition for "Pirates of the Caribbean" never materialized, he has made several other notable film appearances, including roles in "Austin Powers in Goldmember" and "Little Nicky."
Ozzy’s Health Struggles and Retirement Announcement
Sharon’s candid confession came amidst Ozzy’s ongoing health challenges. The rocker recently admitted to having difficulty walking due to his battle with Parkinson’s disease.
"I go on about the way I can’t walk, and I can’t do this… but you know what I was thinking over the holidays? For all my complaining, I’m still alive," he said on his Sirius XM show, "Ozzy Speaks."
Despite his physical limitations, Ozzy remains determined to perform live and connect with his fans. He is scheduled to reunite with the original lineup of Black Sabbath for a final show in Birmingham, England, in July.
Ozzy’s Gratitude and Legacy
Reflecting on his impending retirement from touring, Ozzy expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support he has received throughout his career.
"How blessed am I to do it with the help of people whom I love. Birmingham is the true home of metal. Birmingham forever," he said in a statement about the final Black Sabbath performance.
Despite his health challenges, Ozzy’s legacy as one of music’s most iconic and influential figures remains unyielding. His distinctive vocal style, captivating stage presence, and enduring contributions to the genre of hard rock have left an indelible mark on the world of entertainment.
