Lima, Peru – Latin music icon Shakira has been hospitalized in Lima, Peru, due to abdominal pain, forcing her to cancel her scheduled Sunday night concert in the Peruvian capital.
"Last night, I had to go to the emergency room due to abdominal pain and I am currently hospitalized," the 48-year-old Colombian singer announced on social media. "The doctors who are treating me have informed me that I am not in a condition to perform a concert tonight," she added in a message written in both Spanish and English.
"I trust that tomorrow I will be better and that I will be discharged as soon as possible so that I can present the show that I have prepared for you all," continued the eclectic star.
Shakira was scheduled to perform two sold-out concerts at Lima’s National Stadium on Sunday and Monday. The star arrived in the Peruvian capital on Saturday after her stint in Brazil, where she kicked off her first world tour in seven years on February 11 in Rio de Janeiro to promote her latest album, "Las mujeres ya no lloran" (Women Don’t Cry Anymore), which recently won a Grammy Award.
This is the Colombian star’s first tour since 2018, when she rose to global fame with "Whenever, Whenever" in 2001. She is scheduled to play nearly 50 dates in Latin America, the United States, and Canada through the end of June.
