Sergio Hudson’s Black Excellence Runway Show at NYFW

Black Excellence Reigns Supreme at Sergio Hudson’s NYFW Runway Show

New York, NY – Thursday, February 9, 2023 – The energy of Black excellence permeated the air as Sergio Hudson unveiled his stunning Fall/Winter 2025 collection during New York Fashion Week. The star-studded front row was a testament to Hudson’s unparalleled talent and his unwavering commitment to celebrating diversity.

A Symphony of White: Palmer, Long, and Hall Captivate

Keke Palmer, Hudson’s muse and a fashion icon in her own right, graced the front row in an ethereal creamy floor-length coat. Her caramel turtleneck, cream trousers, and tan belt elevated the monochrome look to new heights.

Muni Long and Tamron Hall exuded sophistication in their white ensembles. Long commanded attention in a sharp white hourglass tuxedo jacket with a navy pocket square, paired with a crisp white shirt and pants. Hall’s double-breasted white coat with satin lapels cinched at her waist, creating a statuesque silhouette.

As Bethann Hardison, former model and activist, made her entrance, Hall embraced her warmly, a symbol of the mutual respect and support within the Black fashion community.

Hudson Muses: Kandi and Riley Burruss Shine

Reality television star Kandi Burruss sparkled in a golden dress and a tailored dark blazer. Her daughter, Riley Burruss, made a grand entrance in a floor-length red gown that skimmed the ground, highlighting her blossoming fashionista status.

Deconstructive Darkness and Bold Pops of Color

Hudson described his collection as the antithesis of his previous spring/summer offering, a complete 180 characterized by dark and moody hues. "It’s cold outside, and I want to give you the best that I got anyway," he said. "So you know, I’m putting on the clothes, but they’re going to be snatched."

Hudson’s vision for the season centered around the luxury of dressing up for no particular reason. The runway showcased an array of textures, including leather and intricately hand-embroidered pieces. "Nothing is going to be by itself," he said. "If we’re doing an embroidered top, we’re doing a turtleneck under it."

While the collection began with a somber palette, Hudson’s signature bold hues gradually emerged throughout the show. "It’s a little electric blue skirt or suede coat or a bright chartreuse coat, and a red section," he said, highlighting some of the collection’s vibrant highlights.

Veronica Webb and Chanel Iman: Supermodel Allure

Supermodel Veronica Webb, a frequent Hudson collaborator, showcased a red dress reminiscent of a 2025 Jessica Rabbit. Supermodel Chanel Iman stunned in a sophisticated all-black ensemble, complete with fur, leather gloves, and an oversized belt.

Oversized feathery furs gave way to tailored suiting and monochromatic ensembles in rich hues like burgundy, magenta, and red. Hudson’s mastery of tailoring and his ability to create pieces that exude both power and femininity were on full display.

Dressing Dignitaries and the Met Gala’s Black Dandy Theme

Hudson has become a go-to designer for powerful women, including Michelle Obama and Beyoncé. However, it was another woman in politics who made headlines in January when she wore a Sergio Hudson coat and dress to a wreath-laying ceremony. "I had nothing to do with that!" Hudson said with a laugh, referring to Usha Vance, the second lady and wife of Vice President JD Vance.

Hudson’s reaction to Vance’s fashion nod? "Thank you for purchasing a piece, I had no clue. You know, it’s a free country, and I appreciate the business."

The upcoming Met Gala, with its focus on Black menswear and the Black dandy, promises to be a showcase for Hudson’s talent. "I mean, it’s me," he said with a chuckle. "We’ll be there!"

Hudson’s continued success is a testament to his unwavering belief in the beauty and power of diversity. His designs celebrate the multifaceted nature of Blackness and inspire others to embrace their own unique style. The Sergio Hudson brand is a beacon of representation and excellence in the fashion industry.
