Schumer Expresses Concerns Over Oligarchs Amidst Soros Ties

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has voiced concerns about the influence of oligarchs in the United States, despite his own well-documented connections to the billionaire Soros family. During an appearance on "The View," Schumer stated that the idea of oligarchs running the country keeps him awake at night.

"I wake up at 3 in the morning sometimes so worried about the future of this country under these oligarchs," Schumer said on "The View."

This statement raises eyebrows given Schumer’s long-standing relationship with George Soros and his son, Alex Soros. George Soros, a prominent mega-donor, has contributed millions to Schumer’s Senate Majority PAC during the 2024 election cycle. Campaign finance reports confirm that Democracy PAC II, primarily funded by Soros, donated $2.5 million to the Senate Majority PAC in 2024, $3.5 million in 2022, and $2.5 million in 2021, totaling $6 million.

Schumer’s Ties to the Soros Family

The relationship between Schumer and the Soros family extends beyond financial contributions. A 2023 Fox News Digital review of Alex Soros’ Instagram account revealed numerous photos with top Democrats in both the House and the Senate between 2018 and 2022, including at least nine meetings with Schumer.

Alex Soros himself has publicly acknowledged his close ties to Schumer. In a July 2022 Instagram post, Soros shared a photo with Schumer, stating, "Good to see majority leader [Schumer] earlier this week! Energized to elect at least two more Democratic senators so we can secure voting rights and a woman’s right to chose!" In a December 2021 post, he referred to Schumer as his "good friend" after a "great meeting" at the Capitol. Months prior, Soros posted a selfie with Schumer wearing a bicycle helmet, praising the senator’s fitness and focus on voting rights legislation.

Alex Soros’ influence extends to the White House as well. Visitor logs show that he visited the White House six times between October 2021 and December 2022 during the Biden administration. A White House official confirmed that two of these visits were with Ron Klain, Biden’s chief of staff.

His social media presence showcases his relationships with other leading Democrats, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, and candidates in contested races, such as Sen. Ruben Gallego.

Biden’s Recognition of George Soros

President Biden recently awarded George Soros with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in January. Alex Soros accepted the award on his father’s behalf.

"His inspiring generosity reminds us all of our capacity and our obligation to stand up to the abuse of power and to be guardians of democracy and all people yearning to be free," Biden said during the ceremony.

This decision has drawn criticism, particularly from those who believe Soros’ financial influence in politics undermines the democratic process.

Criticism and Accusations of Oligarchy

Elon Musk, who has been at the center of Democrats’ accusations of rising oligarchy, criticized Biden’s decision to award Soros the Medal of Freedom, calling it "a travesty."

Organizations that have received funding from Soros and his Open Society Policy Center have also been involved in controversial activities. MoveOn.org, for example, led the "Congress Works for Us, Not Musk" initiative, which disrupted town halls and Republican offices.

Furthermore, National Students for Justice in Palestine (NSJP), a group at the forefront of the pro-Palestine Columbia University protests, accepted fiscal sponsorship from the Westchester Peace Action Committee Foundation (WESPAC), which received a six-figure donation from a nonprofit funded by the Soros network.

Democrats’ Reliance on Wealthy Donors

Despite criticizing the influence of oligarchs, the Democratic Party has also relied on wealthy surrogates in the 2024 campaign trail. Vice President Kamala Harris hosted events with celebrities, including Beyoncé, Eminem, Bruce Springsteen, and Mark Cuban. FEC filings show the Harris campaign made two $500,000 payments to Oprah Winfrey’s production company after Winfrey appeared with Harris at a town hall event and rally.

Defining Oligarchy

While Democrats have been quick to accuse President Trump of fostering an oligarchy, they themselves have been criticized for their reliance on wealthy donors. Sen. Bernie Sanders has organized "Fighting Oligarchy" rallies, aiming to address the influence of the billionaire class and create a government that works for all.

Biden himself has used the term "oligarchy" to describe the concentration of extreme wealth, power, and influence in America, which he believes threatens democracy and a fair shot for everyone.

Schumer’s Defense and Criticism of Republicans

Schumer defended his leadership on "The View" after voting for a Republican spending bill to avert a government shutdown. He argued that Republicans, including Musk and Director of Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Russell Vought, wanted a shutdown to deliver tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.

"The MAGA right-wing Republicans dream of decimating the government. You know why they do it? They want tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans. They want to destroy government, give it all to the wealthy and get rid of any regulations they might have, so I felt an obligation to stop it," Schumer said.

He also accused Republicans of being controlled by a "small group of wealthy, greedy people" who resent government intervention in their businesses and finances.

"The Republican Party is a different kettle of fish than it used to be, and that’s why we’re fighting them so hard. They are controlled by a small group of wealthy, greedy people. You know what their attitude is? ‘I made my money all by myself. How dare your government take my money from me? I don’t want to pay taxes. I built my company with my own bare hands. How dare your government tell me how I should treat my customers, the land and water that I own, or my employees?’ They hate government. Government is a barrier to people, a barrier to stop them from doing things. They want to destroy it. We are not letting them do it. And we are united," Schumer said.

Schumer’s office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
