Saarland Police Unveils State-of-the-Art Headquarters in Saarbrücken

Saarbrücken, Germany – The Saarland Police has inaugurated its new headquarters for the Saarbrücken-Stadt Police Inspectorate, marking a significant milestone in the state’s commitment to public safety and modernizing its policing infrastructure. The project, with an investment of approximately 44.6 million euros, is the largest infrastructure investment for the police in the state’s history.

Consolidation and Modernization

The new headquarters consolidates three existing police stations in Saarbrücken into a single, purpose-built facility. This consolidation streamlines operations, bringing personnel, equipment, and logistics under one roof.

"This investment sets a new standard for our state’s security architecture," said Saarland’s Minister of the Interior, Reinhold Jost (SPD). "The consolidated location will significantly improve communication, decision-making, and response times, allowing our officers to act more efficiently and effectively in critical situations."

Features and Facilities

The modern, 5,100-square-meter building boasts 197 rooms, including 96 offices, designed to accommodate approximately 300 employees from the Saarbrücken-Stadt Police Inspectorate, the Operational Unit, and the Department for Decentralized Property Crime and Cybercrime.

Building Challenges and Delays

Construction of the new headquarters began in 2021, but faced several challenges that contributed to delays. Initially, an underground bunker had to be removed during excavation work. Supply chain disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine also hindered progress.

Furthermore, a significant water damage incident on the ground floor further delayed the move-in date. Despite these setbacks, the project was eventually completed and officially handed over to the police force.

Enhanced Capabilities

The new headquarters provides a range of modern amenities and technological enhancements that will improve the capabilities of the Saarbrücken-Stadt Police Inspectorate. These include:

  • Dedicated spaces for specialized units, such as the Cybercrime Department
  • Video conferencing and collaboration facilities for efficient communication and coordination
  • State-of-the-art surveillance and security systems for enhanced situational awareness
  • Modern interrogation and interview rooms
  • Crime laboratories and evidence processing facilities
  • Fitness and training facilities for officers

Commitment to Public Safety

The completion of the new headquarters underscores the Saarland government’s commitment to providing its police officers with the resources they need to effectively protect and serve the community.

"This investment is a testament to our unwavering belief in the importance of a strong and modern police force," said Minister Jost. "We are confident that this new facility will enable our officers to fulfill their duties with greater efficiency and effectiveness, ultimately enhancing public safety in the region."
