Rosie O’Donnell Relocates to Ireland Citing Mental Health Benefits Amidst Trump Feud

Rosie O’Donnell, the outspoken comedian and former co-host of "The View," has revealed her decision to leave the United States and relocate to Ireland, citing the significant impact the political climate, particularly her long-standing feud with former President Donald Trump, has had on her mental health. In a candid and lengthy TikTok video, O’Donnell detailed the reasons behind her move, emphasizing the positive effects she has experienced since leaving the U.S. and settling in Ireland.

O’Donnell’s decision to leave the U.S. on January 15th was heavily influenced by the anxieties and stress induced by the political landscape following Donald Trump’s election. The roots of their conflict trace back almost two decades to O’Donnell’s tenure on "The View," where she openly criticized Trump’s actions and policies. This criticism triggered a prolonged and often personal feud, with Trump frequently targeting O’Donnell in public statements and on social media.

"We really felt this was the safest and best thing for us to do, and it looks like, sadly, we were correct," O’Donnell stated in her TikTok video, reflecting on the current state of affairs in the United States. She expressed her dismay at what she perceives as "overwhelmingly depressing, unconstitutional, illegal, criminal, and so, so very sad" events occurring in the country.

O’Donnell articulated that one of the primary benefits of moving to Ireland is the relief from the constant stress and anxiety related to the political situation in the U.S., as well as no longer feeling personally targeted by the former President. "I feel healthier (and) I’m sleeping better without the stress and anxiety over what was happening politically in the country," she shared. "I feel relief because I am not being singled out by the President of the United States."

The move also reflects O’Donnell’s belief that the political landscape in the United States needs significant change. She expressed her support for greater female representation in positions of political power, stating, "enough with old white guys who don’t stand up for what’s right, in both parties."

Addressing the origin of her feud with Trump, O’Donnell explained, "I was a host of ‘The View’ and it was my job to talk about current events and politics, and when I told the truth about him, he went nutzo." She added that the conflict has persisted for nearly two decades, and she reached a point where she could no longer tolerate living with the stress and emotional toll it was taking on her, especially with the possibility of Trump returning to office.

O’Donnell has lauded the welcoming and kind nature of the Irish people. "Kindness counts, and everyone is very friendly in Ireland, very kind," she remarked. This sentiment echoes her overall positive experience since relocating to Ireland. "It’s been pretty wonderful, I have to say," O’Donnell said in her TikTok video. "The people are so loving and so kind, so welcoming. And I’m very grateful."

The relocation has not gone unnoticed. During a March 12 meeting between then Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin and President Trump at the White House, Brian Glenn, a conservative commentator from Real Americas Voice, questioned Martin about O’Donnell’s move to Ireland. "Why in the world would you let Rosie O’Donnell move to Ireland?" Glenn asked. Trump responded, "Thank you, I like that question." He then turned to Martin, who remained silent, and said, "Did you know you have Rosie O’Donnell? Do you know who she is? You’re better off not knowing."

While the move might seem sudden to some, it is a culmination of years of stress and anxiety stemming from the political climate and the highly publicized feud with Trump. It is a decision O’Donnell made to prioritize her well-being and mental health. The experience underscores the idea that personal choices are often deeply intertwined with political realities.

O’Donnell’s move to Ireland highlights the far-reaching impacts of political polarization and the personal toll it can take. Her decision to prioritize her mental health and seek a more peaceful environment reflects a growing awareness of the importance of well-being in the face of political turmoil. Her story serves as a reminder that individuals have the agency to make choices that support their health and happiness, even if it means making significant life changes. O’Donnell’s journey is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the courage to prioritize well-being in a complex and often challenging world.

The move has also provided O’Donnell with a fresh perspective and a renewed sense of hope. She has embraced the welcoming community in Ireland and is actively building a new life for herself. While she continues to advocate for political change and social justice, she is doing so from a place of greater peace and well-being. Her story is a reminder that even in the face of adversity, it is possible to find hope, healing, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Furthermore, the move brings to light the responsibility of political leaders to foster a climate of respect and understanding. The prolonged feud between O’Donnell and Trump demonstrates the damaging effects of personal attacks and the importance of engaging in constructive dialogue. O’Donnell’s experience underscores the need for political discourse that is respectful, inclusive, and focused on addressing the real issues facing society. Ultimately, her move to Ireland is a personal decision with broader implications for the political landscape and the importance of prioritizing individual well-being in an increasingly polarized world.
