Polzin Outlines Return Plan for HSV Striker Robert Glatzel
Hamburg, Germany – Hamburger SV coach Merlin Polzin has unveiled his plan for the comeback of striker Robert Glatzel, who has rejoined the team’s training sessions.
Phased Integration
"We want to gradually integrate him into the squad up to the international break," Polzin said ahead of HSV’s match against in-form 1. FC Kaiserslautern on Friday. "I hope that it’s possible for him to return to the squad and see some playing time before the break."
Glatzel, 31, returned to team training on Tuesday after missing several months due to injury. The international break is scheduled for the fourth weekend of March, making a comeback before that date seem feasible.
Cautious Approach
However, Polzin is taking a cautious approach with Glatzel’s recovery. The striker is currently participating in training sessions without physical contact.
"We won’t risk jeopardizing his comeback, so we’re sticking to a well-structured plan," Polzin explained. "We’re confident that we’re on the right track."
Glatzel’s Excitement
Glatzel, who underwent surgery after suffering a tendon tear in his hip in October, expressed his joy at returning to the team environment.
"It felt incredibly good," Glatzel said. "I was so happy to be back on the pitch with the guys. It’s a completely different feeling compared to training alone and away from the squad."
Selke’s Form
In Glatzel’s absence, fellow striker Davie Selke has stepped up, becoming HSV’s leading goalscorer with 14 goals.
"Davie has done a great job," Polzin said. "He’s been a valuable asset to the team, and we’re grateful for his contributions."
Polzin’s Optimism
Polzin remains optimistic about Glatzel’s recovery timeline.
"Robert is working hard and making progress," the coach said. "We believe that he will be able to make a significant contribution to the team in the near future."
HSV’s Hopes
Glatzel’s return will be a major boost for HSV, who are aiming to maintain their promotion push to the Bundesliga.
"We have a lot of quality in our squad, and Robert’s return will add even more depth and options," Polzin said. "We’re confident that we can achieve our goals with him back in the team."
