However, a judge in the Dominican Republic ultimately ruled that Riibe had been cooperative with the investigation and granted him permission to return to his home country.

Riibe’s release coincides with Konanki’s parents’ plea to Dominican authorities to officially declare their daughter deceased. However, Subbarayudu Konanki recently told reporters that he and his wife are "coming to terms" with the likelihood that their daughter drowned.

During a press conference, Subbarayudu Konanki poignantly expressed the immense difficulty in processing the situation, while his wife was seen visibly grieving.

Joshua Riibe is a senior at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota, where he is pursuing a degree in land surveying and mapping sciences, according to university spokesperson Zach Dwyer. Investigators have confirmed that Riibe and Konanki met in the Dominican Republic during their respective spring break trips.
