Massive Cocaine Bust Leads to Arrests in Multinational Raid
Stuttgart, Germany – Nearly two years after a multi-ton cocaine seizure in Hamburg’s port, a police raid spanning multiple German states, Poland, and the Netherlands has resulted in the arrest of five suspects.
The raid, coordinated by the Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office (LKA) in Stuttgart, targeted a total of eleven locations in Münster, Hamburg, Munich, Falkenhagen, and Duisburg in Germany, as well as in Poland and the Netherlands. Four suspects were apprehended during the initial raids, one upon his arrival at Düsseldorf Airport. A sixth suspect, already incarcerated in Spain for unrelated crimes, has also been linked to the case.
Unveiling the Cocaine Ring
According to the LKA, the investigation into the alleged gang began after the seizure of approximately two tons of cocaine in the Port of Hamburg in June 2023. "Extensive, Europe-wide investigations have uncovered the operations of the now-dismantled group, which had formed an alliance for the smuggling of cocaine into Europe," the LKA announced.
One of the suspects is believed to be connected to a company involved in the seizure of an additional four tons of cocaine in Ecuador. Along with the United States, Europe is one of the primary markets for cocaine consumption.
Collaboration in the Fight Against Drug Trafficking
The officers involved in the raids primarily come from the GER (Gemeinsame Ermittlungsgruppe Rauschgift Karlsruhe) of the LKA, a specialized task force dedicated to combating organized, severe, and cross-border drug-related crime. The GER, based in Karlsruhe and Stuttgart, is staffed by customs officials and LKA police officers.
Evidence and Assets Seized
During the raids, investigators seized:
- Computers and documents
- Weapons and nearly 500 rounds of ammunition
- Luxury vehicles, watches, and a substantial amount of cash
Ongoing Investigation
All of the suspects are currently in pre-trial detention, and the investigation is ongoing. The LKA has noted that further arrests and charges are possible.
