AOK Insureds to Receive Enhanced Birthing Experience at Marburg University Hospital

Marburg, Germany – Pregnant women insured with AOK will soon benefit from more personalized support during childbirth at the University Hospital Marburg. The health insurance provider has signed a quality agreement with the University Hospital Gießen and Marburg (UKGM), ensuring a comprehensive accompaniment throughout the birthing process.

This agreement, effective immediately, applies exclusively to the Marburg campus and encompasses a range of services from the initial registration through six months postpartum.

Tailored Support for Optimal Outcomes

The agreement includes:

  • Personalized consultations upon admission
  • Dedicated midwife consultations
  • Consistent blood pressure monitoring
  • Access to an app designed to alleviate birthing anxiety and prevent postpartum depression

These measures aim to reduce unnecessary medical interventions, minimize C-sections except in emergencies, increase breastfeeding rates, and foster a strong mother-child bond.

Collaboration and Innovation

The quality agreement was initially developed by Techniker Krankenkasse and Barmer with Asklepios and Rhön clinics. AOK Hessen has now joined the agreement for Marburg’s birthing services.

Both AOK and UKGM recognize the advantages of this program, which is rooted in clinical midwifery practices. It empowers expectant parents with knowledge and confidence throughout their birthing journey.

"Parents can establish trust and maintain control during the often emotionally charged experience of childbirth," emphasized Uli Kopf-Löchel, lead midwife at the University Hospital Marburg.

Synergistic Care

The agreement emphasizes the continued importance of primary care providers, including gynecologists and midwives. The quality agreement does not replace these services but rather supplements them to enhance the overall birthing experience.

Expectant parents will continue to receive prenatal care and attend childbirth preparation courses from their healthcare providers. The quality agreement serves as an additional layer of support to improve interdisciplinary care.

Proven Benefits

Studies have shown that the comprehensive support provided by this quality agreement leads to:

  • Increased patient satisfaction
  • Reduced anxiety and depression
  • Improved birth outcomes
  • Enhanced mother-child bonding

Shared Vision

AOK and UKGM share a common goal of providing the best possible birthing experience for pregnant women. This agreement represents a significant step towards achieving that goal, empowering expectant parents with knowledge, support, and personalized care.
