House GOP Confident in Retaining Majority Despite Fundraising Deficit

Amid concerns about potential headwinds, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) Chairman, Richard Hudson (R-N.C.), expressed unwavering confidence in the GOP’s ability to maintain control of the House of Representatives throughout President Donald Trump’s second term.

Despite the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) out-raising the NRCC in the first month of 2025, Hudson asserted that Republicans would secure the necessary funding to retain and grow their majority.

Republican Majority Outperformed Expectations

Citing the 2022 election cycle, Hudson emphasized the NRCC’s success in delivering 74.5 million votes for Republican congressional candidates. He attributed this achievement to the effective deployment of resources to maximize voter turnout.

"I’m confident in our plan to win again in 2026," Hudson declared.

Democratic Counterpart Expresses Optimism

Meanwhile, the DCCC Chair, Suzan DelBene (D-Wash.), expressed optimism in the Democrats’ ability to hold House Republicans accountable for failing to prioritize issues affecting ordinary Americans. She criticized the GOP for catering to wealthy contributors instead of addressing economic concerns.

Historical Precedent and Current Dynamics

Political history suggests that the party controlling the White House often faces a backlash in the midterm elections that follow. However, Hudson believes that Republicans will defy this trend due to the unique circumstances of Trump’s second term and the favorable electoral map.

Trump’s presidency represents a known quantity for voters, and the 2024 presidential election was a clear referendum between two distinct White House records, according to Hudson.

Furthermore, Democrats will need to defend 13 representatives from districts won by Trump in 2024, while Republicans only have to hold onto three seats that voted for Kamala Harris.

Fundraising and Strategy

The NRCC acknowledged the DCCC’s fundraising advantage but highlighted its own strong grassroots support. The committee has nearly doubled its small-dollar donations since January 2023.

Hudson emphasized the NRCC’s disciplined spending practices, placing it in a favorable position compared to previous cycles.

Conclusion

Despite the fundraising deficit, the NRCC exudes confidence in its ability to maintain control of the House in 2026. Hudson believes that the unique circumstances of Trump’s second term, the favorable political environment, and the NRCC’s strategic fundraising and campaign management will lead to a Republican victory.
