Microsoft Releases Windows 11 Insider Preview Builds with Enhanced Cloud Search and Improved User Interfaces

Enhanced Cloud Search for Copilot+ PC Owners

Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.3291 (KB5052080) introduces a new semantic search option that allows users to search for files and information in the cloud using descriptive terms, rather than relying on exact filenames. This feature is currently available exclusively for Qualcomm-powered Snapdragon PCs.

New Sharing Interface for Windows Users

Build 22635.4950 (KB5052078) brings a redesigned sharing interface that provides a more convenient and intuitive way to share files. Users can now drag and drop selected files to the top of the screen to access sharing options, making it easier to choose the preferred method (email, OneDrive, USB key, etc.).

Start Menu Enhancements

In addition to the new sharing interface, this build introduces several tweaks to the Start menu to improve its functionality and organization. Users will now have the option to configure the Start menu in two new ways:

  • Grid view: Organizes apps alphabetically in a grid layout.
  • Categories view: Automatically sorts apps into different categories based on their usage patterns and Microsoft’s understanding of the app.

Optional Release and Availability

Build 26120.3291 is currently an optional release for both the Beta and Dev Channels, while Build 22635.4950 is available in the Beta Channel only. Microsoft plans to make Build 26120.3291 a recommended release for both channels later this year, at which point the two builds will merge.

Recall Upgrade and Temporary Snapshot Loss

The introduction of Build 26120.3291 also coincides with an upgrade to the Recall feature. As a result, all previously taken Recall snapshots will be erased during the upgrade process. Microsoft has not disclosed the specific nature of the Recall upgrade, but users will need to create new snapshots once the upgrade is complete.

Insider Channels and Update Availability

To receive these new features and updates, Windows users must have the Insider channels enabled within Windows Update. Microsoft notes that not all new features are released immediately to all Insider users, and it recommends checking for updates regularly to ensure access to the latest enhancements.
