Kargow, Germany – On Sunday evening, a devastating house fire erupted in the scenic Müritz National Park, threatening the lives of an elderly couple and their family.

Narrow Escape for Elderly Couple

At approximately 6:30 PM, flames began to engulf the single-family home situated in the Kargow district of Speck. Inside the blazing structure were 86-year-old Werner and his 87-year-old wife, Helga.

As smoke billowed around them, the couple swiftly reacted, assisted by their concerned children and grandchildren who were in the vicinity. With their help, Werner and Helga managed to evacuate the burning building and reach safety.

Heroism and Minor Injury

The couple’s 53-year-old son, identified as Andreas, played a pivotal role in the rescue. He bravely entered the smoke-filled house to aid his parents’ escape. However, he sustained a minor smoke inhalation injury in the process.

Firefighting Efforts and Damage Assessment

Local fire crews were promptly dispatched to the scene and worked tirelessly to extinguish the blaze. The fire was largely brought under control, but the damage caused to the property was extensive, estimated at around 650,000 euros (approximately $700,000).

In the aftermath of the fire, the affected family received emotional support from a crisis chaplain who provided counseling and comfort. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the authorities.
