Gunfire Erupts in La Castellane, Marseille: Fears of Renewed Turf War

This account was corroborated by the victim, a 26-year-old born in Algeria who is subject to an order to leave French territory (OQTF). Police sources confirmed that he was already known to authorities for drug trafficking offenses.

The victim identified himself as a "lookout" for the La Castellane network, working for the La Bricarde gang. He was transported to the hospital by emergency services in critical condition.

Fortunately, by Tuesday morning, his condition had stabilized and was no longer considered life-threatening, according to the Marseille prosecutor’s office. An investigation has been launched into the incident, focusing on charges of "attempted murder by an organized gang" and "participation in a criminal association with a view to committing a crime by an organized gang." The investigation has been entrusted to the Division of Organized and Specialized Crime (DCOS), formerly known as the Criminal Investigation Department (PJ). As of Tuesday morning, the suspects remained at large.
