Maná: Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nomination, New Tour, and Enduring Legacy

After a remarkable journey spanning nearly four decades, the iconic Mexican rock band Maná is finally receiving widespread recognition for its contributions to music and culture. Known for their captivating melodies, profound lyricism, and energetic performances, Maná has become a household name for millions across the globe. The band’s extensive catalogue features timeless hits such as "Rayando el Sol," "Oye Mi Amor," "Mariposa Traicionera," and "Labios Compartidos," anthems that have resonated with generations.

In a groundbreaking achievement, Maná received a nomination for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, marking the first time a Spanish-language band has been considered for this prestigious honor. This nomination is a testament to Maná’s enduring impact on the music landscape and its ability to transcend cultural boundaries.

The band members, lead vocalist Fher Olvera, drummer Alex González, guitarist Sergio Vallín, and bassist Juan Calleros, expressed their gratitude and excitement about the nomination. Olvera shared his disbelief, stating that he never imagined this recognition would come. He acknowledged the significance of this moment, emphasizing that it’s a dream come true for the band.

This year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees include other music legends, such as Mariah Carey, Billy Idol, Oasis, and Cyndi Lauper. Maná’s inclusion alongside these iconic artists highlights the band’s importance and influence in the broader music community.

Maná’s journey began in 1986, the same year the first class of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees, including Elvis Presley, James Brown, and Little Richard, made their mark. Since then, Maná has released 11 albums, including the groundbreaking "Dónde Jugarán Los Niños?" in 1992. This album became the best-selling Spanish-language rock album of all time, solidifying Maná’s place in music history.

Olvera emphasized that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nomination is a shared achievement with all the fans and supporters who have been with the band since the beginning. González echoed this sentiment, expressing his gratitude to the Hall of Fame committee for recognizing Maná’s musical and social impact, as well as their multigenerational reach. He emphasized that this nomination paves the way for other artists who sing primarily in Spanish.

Even if Maná is not ultimately inducted, the nomination itself is a significant victory, opening doors for future artists and further recognizing the importance of Latin music on a global scale.

In addition to the Hall of Fame nomination, Maná is also embarking on a highly anticipated tour across North America, aiming to break attendance records. The "Vivir Sin Aire" tour, named after their iconic 1992 song, will feature 30 dates and kick off with back-to-back shows in San Antonio, Texas.

Olvera expressed the band’s excitement about returning to the United States and connecting with their passionate fans. He emphasized the power of music to heal and Maná’s commitment to embodying that virtue through their performances.

The tour will also include four shows at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, where Maná is poised to break the record for most arena shows performed in the city’s history, surpassing Bruce Springsteen’s record of 42 shows with a total of 44 concerts. Calleros highlighted the honor of being compared to such great musicians and artists who have performed extensively in the United States.

Olvera attributed this achievement to the unwavering support of their fans, particularly in Los Angeles, which he considers Maná’s second home. He recalled the band’s early shows in small venues in Los Angeles, emphasizing how their fanbase grew organically through word of mouth.

The "Vivir Sin Aire" tour will take Maná to cities like Nashville, St. Louis, Baltimore, Montreal, and Detroit, some of which the band has never visited before. Vallín highlighted this as a testament to the growing Latino community and the band’s excitement about reaching new fans in new places. The tour will extend through spring 2026, concluding in North Carolina.

Beyond their musical prowess, Maná is known for using their platform to address important environmental, social, political, and human rights issues. González emphasized the band’s long history and their observations of social and political issues in Mexico, Latin America, Spain, and the United States. He highlighted Maná’s commitment to supporting the Latino community.

In 2018, Maná received the Latin Recording Academy’s Person of the Year award and used their acceptance speech to advocate for unity and justice during Donald Trump’s presidency. Now, in 2025, amidst another Trump presidency, Maná continues to support the Latino community by creating a space at their shows where fans can escape the political noise and celebrate their culture.

González acknowledged the challenges facing the Latino community in the United States, emphasizing the importance of celebrating their contributions and their collective strength. Ultimately, he stated that Maná’s shows are intended to be a great party, a celebration of music, culture, and community.
