Mac McClung has cemented his place in basketball history by becoming the first player to threepeat in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. The Orlando Magic guard’s astonishing performance at the Chase Center in San Francisco has elevated him to the ranks of the contest’s legends.
McClung, who plays for the Magic’s G League affiliate, the Osceola Magic, showcased an unparalleled combination of athleticism, creativity, and precision. He completed each of his four dunks on his first attempt, earning perfect scores of 50 on every try.
A Perfect Start
For his opening dunk, McClung stunned the crowd by driving a Kia sedan onto the court. A person emerged from the sunroof holding the ball, and McClung soared over the car, snatching the ball and executing a powerful reverse dunk. The judges were unanimous in awarding him a perfect score, setting the tone for his dominant night.
Creative Calculus
McClung’s second dunk was equally impressive. He had a person stand with the ball over his head, then jumped over the person and seemingly suspended himself in mid-air before turning and finishing with a thunderous dunk. Once again, the judges were unanimous in their 50-point evaluation.
Raising the Stakes
In the final round, McClung faced stiff competition from Spurs guard Stephon Castle, who had scored a nearly perfect 49.6 on his first attempt. However, McClung refused to be outdone.
He brought out a series of props, including a spinning hoverboard and a ladder. He leaped over the hoverboard, dunked the ball positioned in front of the rim with his left hand, then soared over the ladder to dunk the second ball.

He enlisted the help of Cavaliers forward Evan Mobley, a towering 6-foot-11 presence. Mobley stood on a platform in front of the hoop, holding a ball over his head. McClung jumped over Mobley, grabbed the ball, double-clutched it, and slammed it home with force.

With his third consecutive Slam Dunk Contest triumph, McClung has surpassed some of the greatest dunkers in history, including Michael Jordan, Dominique Wilkins, Harold Miner, Jason Richardson, and Zach LaVine. He has also joined former Knicks guard Nate Robinson as the only players to ever win the contest three times.
