Kimmich Contract Decision Looming for Bayern Munich

Bayern Confident of Swift Resolution in Contract Talks with Joshua Kimmich

Following Jamal Musiala’s contract extension with Bayern Munich, sporting director Christoph Freund expressed optimism that midfielder Joshua Kimmich will soon follow suit. Kimmich’s current deal expires at the end of the season, sparking interest from top clubs abroad.

"We’re in constant dialogue with Jo. This is a crucial decision for him. However, I’m confident that he’ll make his choice soon," Freund remarked after a match against Bayer Leverkusen.

Freund emphasized Kimmich’s pivotal role within the Bayern squad: "He’s witnessing the team’s progression and consistently delivers on the pitch." While declining to provide a specific timeline for a contract announcement, Freund assured, "It will happen promptly."

Bayern’s recent contract extension with Musiala until 2030 has reportedly increased his salary, propelling him into the club’s top earners. International interest in Kimmich has intensified in light of his contract situation.

Despite this, Kimmich asserts that his decision "doesn’t hinge on individual players." He prioritizes the club’s overall development, including personnel changes. "The picture is becoming clearer as we extend contracts. Nonetheless, I won’t let my decision be swayed by specific players," the 30-year-old stated.

Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl expressed his hope for a timely resolution: "We’re clear on our intentions, and Josh understands what we want. I’m optimistic that we can finalize an agreement." Eberl believes the recent contract extensions signal Bayern’s ambition: "He wants to stay at Bayern Munich and win the Champions League. If he didn’t have that desire, we wouldn’t be discussing it."

Alongside Musiala, Bayern has extended the contracts of Manuel Neuer (until 2026) and Alphonso Davies (until 2030). Freund indicated ongoing discussions with Leroy Sané and Dayot Upamecano regarding contract extensions. "Both the club and players need stability," he explained. While Sané’s contract expires this summer like Kimmich’s, Upamecano’s current deal runs until mid-2026.

With a series of key contract decisions on the horizon, Bayern aims to secure the future of its squad and maintain its status as a European powerhouse.
