Democratic Co-Host Criticizes Carville’s Inaction Advice, Advocates for Active Resistance

The View co-host Joy Behar has vehemently opposed the latest counsel provided by Democratic strategist James Carville, urging Democrats to adopt a more proactive approach in countering President Donald Trump.

During a segment on Tuesday, Carville recommended that Democrats adopt a "play possum" strategy, advocating for inaction and allowing events to unfold. However, Behar strongly rebuffed this advice, asserting that doing nothing only empowers the opposition.

Behar’s Position: Resistance and Action

"I disagree with Carville and I disagree with you," Behar stated, addressing her co-host, Sara Haines. "People who do nothing empower the enemy. We have lived long enough to see that."

Behar emphasized the importance of multitasking and engaging in both protest and political action. She argued that Democrats should not shy away from vocalizing their opposition while working to hold elected officials accountable.

"You can march, and you can do whatever and let them do what they’re doing. You can do both," she said. "The main thing you can do is call your Republican senators and congresspeople and tell them that you’re not happy with what’s going on."

Complacency and Intangible Issues

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin suggested that Democrats prioritize issues that resonate with voters. She cited former Obama administration official David Axelrod’s suggestion to ignore criticisms of USAID, which Griffin deemed intangible to most Americans.

Griffin emphasized that Democrats should focus their efforts on tangible concerns that directly impact voters’ lives, such as the potential misuse of Social Security funds.

Black Women’s Vote and Rest

Co-host Sunny Hostin expressed a partial agreement with Carville, citing her support for former Vice President Kamala Harris. She stated that she had voted to "save the rest of the country" but acknowledged the unexpected outcome.

"I kind of agree with James Carville because I’m part of the 92% of Black women that voted to save the rest of the country," Hostin said. "So I’m resting."

Failure to Address Systemic Threats

However, Haines reiterated the need for a strategic response from Democrats, prompting Behar to raise concerns about the erosion of democracy.

"Sara, there’s an overriding thing, it’s called democracy, that is slipping away from us," Behar said.

Original Carville Statement: "Play Possum"

Carville’s initial comments, made during an interview with MSNBC’s Ari Melber, advocated for inaction in response to Trump’s actions.

"The question is, how should Democratic politicians respond to this? And what I think they should do is what we call, in rural America, ‘play possum.’ Just let it go," Carville said.

He argued that Democrats should avoid getting in the way of Trump’s agenda and allow it to "germinate" without interference.

Behar’s Criticism of Trump’s Gulf of America Renaming

In a separate segment, Behar voiced her disapproval of President Trump’s renaming of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. She also expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that the continent of America was named after a European explorer.

"Why is it named after a White man?" Behar questioned. "Christopher Columbus was not an American. He was an Italian."
