Missing the Mark: Dresden’s Heinz-Steyer-Stadion to Receive Belated Scoreboard

Introduction:

The recently renovated Heinz-Steyer-Stadion in Dresden has been operating without a crucial component: a scoreboard. This glaring omission, overlooked during the extensive refurbishment, is now being rectified.

Oversight Acknowledged:

Jan Donhauser, Dresden’s Sports Mayor, has confirmed the belated addition to the "Sächsische Zeitung" newspaper. He acknowledges that the oversight occurred during the stadium’s renovation, which concluded last summer. To address this shortcoming, a modern LED scoreboard is being acquired.

Procurement Process:

The city is currently conducting a procurement process, with a deadline of March for the acquisition of the LED scoreboard. According to Donhauser, the cost of the installation is estimated to be around 250,000 euros.

Installation Details:

The new scoreboard will be mounted on the North Stand, facing Rudolf-Harbig-Allee. The site was carefully selected after a structural assessment conducted in collaboration with technical planners. The aim is to have the scoreboard operational by early June 2025.

Addressing Construction Deficiencies:

The scoreboard’s installation marks a significant step towards rectifying the numerous construction defects identified in the stadium. Ralf Minge, former Dynamo soccer player and current director of Sportpark Ostra, reported approximately 1,800 deficiencies ranging from minor scratches to more substantial issues with parking spaces, restrooms, and the absence of a scoreboard.

Renovation Cost:

The two-year renovation and expansion project of Heinz-Steyer-Stadion cost approximately 58 million euros. While the addition of a scoreboard is a welcome improvement, it also highlights the oversight that occurred during the stadium’s refurbishment.

Conclusion:

The installation of a scoreboard at Heinz-Steyer-Stadion is a belated but necessary step towards addressing the criticism it has received. The stadium will now be equipped with a modern scoring system, enhancing the experience for athletes and spectators alike. However, the episode serves as a reminder of the importance of thorough planning and oversight in infrastructure projects.
