Siewert Credits Squad Overhaul for Greuther Fürth’s Resurgence
Jan Siewert, manager of SpVgg Greuther Fürth, attributes his team’s recent upturn in form in the 2. Fußball-Bundesliga to the extensive squad adjustments made in January.
"It’s a lot of fun right now," said Siewert ahead of what he considers a "difficult away game" on Saturday (13:00 CET) against SV Elversberg, who have been formidable at home.
Siewert believes the team’s joy stems not only from their recent two victories, but also from the players’ unwavering commitment.
"There’s a really good competitive situation," Siewert explained. "We were able to bring in a lot of energy through the winter transfer window. It doesn’t guarantee victories, but it increases our chances. I hope we can continue riding this wave."
The eleventh-placed team’s priority remains to earn points consistently, which Siewert believes is more crucial than playing attractive football, especially in the 2. Liga.
"It’s about getting results. We first have to work our way into the game. And then the games can develop in such a way that we find much better solutions with the ball. But first, you have to get the opponent down."
Despite two consecutive victories, Siewert cautions against complacency. "If anyone starts to get carried away, I’ll bring them back down to earth," said the Fürth coach.
Greuther Fürth will be without attacking midfielders Julian Green and Roberto Massimo in Elversberg.
Siewert’s Winter Transfer Window Moves
Siewert has made several key additions to his squad during the winter transfer window, including:
- Timothy Tillman: A versatile midfielder on loan from Bayern Munich
- Branimir Hrgota: An experienced striker signed from Eintracht Frankfurt
- Maximilian Bauer: A defender acquired from Greuther Fürth II
- Sidney Raebiger: A goalkeeper brought in from Werder Bremen
These reinforcements have added depth and quality to the Fürth squad, providing Siewert with more options to choose from.
Elversberg: A Tough Test
SV Elversberg have been a formidable opponent at home this season, with only three losses in 10 games. They currently sit in eighth place in the 2. Bundesliga standings.
"It’s a difficult away game," said Siewert. "Elversberg is a very strong team, especially at home. They’re very aggressive and play with a lot of energy."
Siewert’s Outlook
Despite the challenges ahead, Siewert remains optimistic about his team’s chances.
"We’re in a good position, but we need to keep working hard," said Siewert. "We have a lot of potential, but we need to stay humble and keep our feet on the ground."
Greuther Fürth will be looking to continue their winning streak against Elversberg and further cement their place in the top half of the 2. Bundesliga table.
