Google Rolls Out Comprehensive Extended Warranty Plans for Pixel Phones and Fitbits

Google is revolutionizing device protection with the introduction of 2-year extended warranty plans for Pixel phones. This groundbreaking move expands the scope of Preferred Care, Google’s premium support program, which was previously offered solely on a monthly basis.

Preferred Care: Google’s Apple Care Equivalent

Preferred Care serves as Google’s answer to Apple’s Apple Care program, offering a comprehensive package of benefits to Pixel users. With Preferred Care, customers can enjoy extended coverage for defects and breakdowns, along with subsidized repair costs for accidental damage, including screen and battery replacements.

Initially, Preferred Care was only available as a monthly subscription, ranging from $8 to $15 per month for the latest Pixel 9 series. However, Google has recognized the growing demand for longer-term protection and has expanded its offerings to include 2-year plans.

Wider Availability of 2-Year Preferred Care Plans

Effective February 24, 2025, Google has made 2-year Preferred Care plans universally available for all Pixel devices, including phones. This significant shift allows customers to purchase a one-time protection plan that covers their devices for two years, providing peace of mind and hassle-free repairs.

Google’s updated support page clearly outlines the availability of 2-year Preferred Care plans for eligible devices purchased from the Google Store or authorized retail partners. Notably, plans are also offered for select Fitbit models, such as the Ace 3 and Inspire 3 ($19) and other Fitbits ($29).

Transition to Asurion as Exclusive Provider

Alongside the expansion of 2-year Preferred Care plans, Google has announced a change in its service provider. Assurant, the previous provider, has been replaced by Asurion, which will handle all warranty claims and support moving forward.

This transition will be implemented based on shipping dates. Devices shipped before February 24, 2025, will continue to be covered under the previous terms and conditions and may not be eligible for 2-year plans.

Ben’s Analysis

Google’s move to offer 2-year extended warranty plans for Pixel phones and Fitbits is a testament to the company’s commitment to customer satisfaction. By providing a cost-effective and convenient way to protect their devices, Google empowers users to enjoy their products with greater peace of mind and reduced financial burden.

The expansion of Preferred Care plans to all Pixel devices ensures that all users, regardless of their budget or device preference, can benefit from the extended coverage and support that Preferred Care offers. Additionally, the partnership with Asurion, a reputable and experienced provider in the device protection industry, further enhances the quality and reliability of Google’s warranty program.

Overall, Google’s 2-year Preferred Care plans represent a significant step forward in the company’s device protection strategy, offering customers a comprehensive and affordable way to safeguard their investments.
