German Women’s National Football Team: Alara Sehitler Replaces Injured Marie Müller

Introduction

The German Women’s National Football Team head coach, Christian Wück, has named Alara Sehitler of FC Bayern Munich as a late addition to the squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches. The move comes following the withdrawal of midfielder Marie Müller (Portland Thorns FC) due to injury.

Marie Müller’s Injury

Müller suffered an injury during training, forcing her to withdraw from the squad. Her absence is a significant blow to Wück’s plans, as she is a key player in the team’s midfield.

Alara Sehitler’s Call-Up

To fill the void left by Müller’s injury, Wück has called up Sehitler, an 18-year-old midfielder who has impressed with Bayern Munich and the Germany U23 team. Sehitler has been in fine form for Bayern, scoring several crucial goals in recent matches.

Sehitler’s International Experience

Sehitler made her debut for the German senior national team in November 2022, playing in the 6-0 friendly victory over Switzerland. She also represented Germany at the U17 and U19 levels, showcasing her versatility as a midfielder.

Other Withdrawals

In addition to Müller’s withdrawal, Wück has also lost two central defenders due to injuries: Sara Doorsoun and Kathrin Hendrich. Doorsoun is suffering from muscular problems, while Hendrich is also recovering from an injury.

Upcoming Fixtures

The German Women’s National Team will face the Netherlands in Utrecht on Friday, April 7th, before hosting Austria in Nuremberg on Tuesday, April 11th. These matches are part of the UEFA Nations League Group A, which also includes Italy.

Assessment

Wück is facing a number of challenges heading into the upcoming Nations League matches. The injuries to Müller, Doorsoun, and Hendrich have depleted his squad, but the addition of Sehitler brings a fresh and exciting talent to the team. It remains to be seen how well Sehitler will perform at senior level, but she has the potential to be a valuable asset to the German Women’s National Football Team.
