German Cities Shortlisted for 2029 Women’s Euro Hosting Bid

German Cities Selected for UEFA Women’s EURO 2029 Preliminary Bid

The German Football Association (DFB) has unveiled the eleven host cities that will form its preliminary bid for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2029 championship.

Selected Cities:

  • Berlin
  • Dortmund
  • Düsseldorf
  • Frankfurt
  • Gelsenkirchen
  • Hannover
  • Köln
  • Leipzig
  • Munich
  • Rostock
  • Wolfsburg

Excluded Cities:

  • Bremen
  • Essen
  • Hamburg
  • Stuttgart (withdrew due to financial constraints)

Selection Process and Criteria

The DFB selected the eleven cities based on "clearly defined and transparent criteria that are particularly based on the tournament requirements of UEFA." Specific reasons for the inclusion of the selected cities and the exclusion of Essen were not disclosed.

Tournament Format

UEFA regulations stipulate that the 2029 Women’s EURO will feature 16 teams competing at only eight venues. As such, the DFB will need to reduce its bid to eight cities before the final application deadline in August.

Final Application Timeline

  • March 12: DFB submits its preliminary bid to UEFA.
  • June: DFB selects its eight final host cities.
  • August 27: DFB submits its final bid to UEFA.
