Schwarzwald, Germany – The arrival of Bear Gaia at the Alternativer Wolf- und Bärenpark in the Black Forest, initially scheduled for the upcoming weeks, has been postponed until at least April or potentially May.
Unfavorable weather conditions, including heavy rainfall and frost, have hindered the progress of the specialized high-security enclosure being constructed for the animal, according to a park spokesperson. The construction costs have also escalated, although the precise amount remains undisclosed.
The initial budget for the enclosure stood at approximately one million euros, funded through savings from other park operations and generous donations. The area designated for Gaia includes a three-meter-high electric fence and an additional security measure known as an "underdig protection" to prevent burrowing.
