Monday, February 17: Widespread Overcast Conditions Predicted in France

Summary:

Monday’s weather forecast for France anticipates widespread overcast conditions in the west, accompanied by fog in Aquitaine. Temperatures in the northeast remain low, with frost in the morning, while in the south of the Garonne, temperatures rise between 15 and 20°C in the afternoon.

Detailed Forecast:

Morning:

Overcast skies are prevalent over a large southwestern quarter, stretching towards the Loire Valley and Brittany, with occasional fog. As the day progresses, isolated clearings are expected. From Hauts-de-France to Rhône-Alpes, the sky is veiled, with some freezing fog in the Saône Valley and Alsace plains. Near the Mediterranean, the skies are variable. Blue skies are anticipated elsewhere.

Frost is common over a good third of the northern part of the country, with temperatures ranging from -3 to 0°C from Strasbourg to Orléans and Auxerre. The southwest is milder, with temperatures reaching 10°C in the Basque Country.

Afternoon:

Along the west coast, clouds struggle to dissipate, with a possibility of isolated showers near the Pyrenees. On the Côte d’Azur, the sky is overcast, with brighter conditions in Languedoc-Roussillon due to a light tramontane wind. Elsewhere, sunny weather is expected under veiled skies near the English Channel. A light mistral of 50 km/h picks up in the lower Rhône Valley. In the Mediterranean, cloud cover is significantly reduced compared to the previous day.

Temperatures rise across the board, including in the southwestern regions, but cold conditions persist in the east. From Lille to Strasbourg, temperatures hover around 5°C, 7 to 12°C elsewhere, 15°C around the Mediterranean, and 17 to 20°C near the Pyrenees.

Evening and Night:

As the day transitions into evening, the weather remains calm, but overnight, fog and mist form over many plains and valleys. Cold and frost return to the northern and eastern regions.

Outlook for the Week:

Calm weather prevails across the country throughout the week, with high pressure systems dominating. Maritime influences persist in Languedoc-Roussillon, bringing with them cloud cover. Easterly winds continue to affect the northern half of the country, with scattered frost. Mid-week, the wind direction shifts to the south, bringing widespread mild temperatures, and frost is limited to regions bordering Germany and Belgium.
