Fox Joins the Streaming Wars with Fox One

Fox Corporation is set to launch its own streaming service, Fox One, this fall, marking a significant entry into the increasingly competitive streaming landscape. The announcement, made on May 12th, signals Fox’s ambition to directly engage with cord-cutters and retain its existing audience base in the evolving media consumption habits.

Fox One will offer a comprehensive selection of Fox’s entertainment, news, and sports content, aiming to cater to a broad range of viewer preferences. The service will feature live streaming and on-demand access to local Fox stations, Fox News, Fox Business, FS1, FS2, Fox Weather, Fox Sports, BTN, Fox Deportes, and the Fox network. This expansive offering positions Fox One as a one-stop destination for Fox’s core programming, potentially appealing to loyal viewers seeking a convenient and comprehensive streaming experience.

The launch of Fox One comes as Fox is the only major network that does not have a dedicated streaming service from its parent company, as ABC is linked to Disney+ and Hulu, NBC has Peacock, and CBS has Paramount+.

The company plans to launch Fox One ahead of the NFL and college football seasons, capitalizing on the high viewership and advertising revenue associated with these sporting events. The timing strategically aligns with the peak viewing season, giving Fox One a strong initial boost in subscriber acquisition.

While the pricing details for Fox One have not yet been revealed, Fox aims to attract consumers who have already abandoned traditional cable subscriptions. Fox Corporation CEO Lachlan Murdoch emphasized the importance of retaining cable subscribers, stating that the company does not want to lose them to Fox One. In addition to its standalone offering, Fox One will offer bundling options with Fox Nation, its existing streaming service focused on opinion and entertainment programs. Game shows, including two newcomers, "99 To Beat" and a celebrity revival of "The Weakest Link," will air on Monday and Wednesday evenings.

Fox has canceled "Rescue: Hi-Surf," a freshman drama for which it had high hopes, and "9-1-1: Lone Star." The network is still evaluating the fate of three other shows – "Alert: Missing Persons Unit," "The Cleaning Lady," and "The Great North" – and plans to make a final decision by June 30.
