Dying Light 2: Winter Tales Return with Update 1.20 and a Festive Feast

Villedor is about to be blanketed in snow and cheer, as Techland unveils the return of the beloved "Winter Tales: Gifts from Above" event in Dying Light 2: Stay Human. Accompanying the festive merriment is the release of Patch 1.20, promising a more streamlined beginning for newcomers and a collection of fixes and improvements for veterans alike. Prepare to dive back into the city and experience a holiday season unlike any other, filled with zombies, snowballs, and plenty of opportunities to earn exclusive rewards.

The Winter Tales event, kicking off on December 11 and running until January 2, transforms Villedor into a winter wonderland. Get ready to spread some holiday cheer, one decoration at a time. Your mission? Deck the halls, or rather, the community tree, with trinkets, ornaments, and other festive decorations scavenged from completing bounties for the returning character, Baka, or by looting containers scattered throughout the city.

Completing these tasks earns you valuable rewards, including the coveted Killer Krampus Outfit and Winter Sweets. These sweets serve as a special currency, allowing you to purchase unique items from Baka’s festively decorated stall. This year Baka will have new items for sale including the Skoll a boomerang style weapon, and snowballs to throw at zombies.

Speaking of Baka, he’s back with a festive twist. Remember his Halloween setup? It’s been traded for a more seasonally appropriate shack, brimming with an array of great and unique items. Beyond the decorative fare, Baka is stocking some exclusive items including the boomerang-style Skoll weapon, snowballs for some frosty zombie fun, and the menacing Punisher weapon, specifically designed to discipline any naughty infected. So, before embarking on your bounty hunts, pay Baka a visit to see his full inventory.

But the Killer Krampus gear doesn’t stop there. Santa himself is getting in on the action, offering contactless delivery of even more festive goodies. As you increase your reputation with Baka, you will get a letter that can be sent to Santa. Located next to Baka’s stall is a mailbox that you can use to mail Santa. Sending letters to Santa triggers a supply drop filled with presents to help you complete the Killer Krampus set!

However, these airdrops are not without their challenges. Enter the dreaded Uncle Snows and their mischievous minions, the Naughty Infected and Virals, all back and hungrier than ever. A new foe enters the fray this year, the Ice Spitter. As the name suggests, these icy zombies shoot projectiles, forcing you to change your tactics to combat them. While the Naughty Infected roam throughout Villedor, the hardened Uncle Snows stand guard over the airdrops, making sure only the worthy claim the rewards inside.

Participate in the weekly airdrops to complete the Killer Krampus Gear Set for free. To even the playing field against the formidable Uncle Snows, keep an eye out for Winter Boons. These temporary buffs can be acquired by eliminating certain Naughty Infected, and yes, you can stack them for an even greater advantage!

Adding to the generosity of the season, Techland is gifting all players the "Above the Law Bundle" completely free until January 2. This bundle, perfectly aligned with the Killer Krampus theme, is all about upholding justice in Villedor. Claim it and show the rule-breakers what you mean business with the included Seesaw Saw weapon!

Beyond the festive events, Techland is also rolling out Patch 1.20 alongside the Winter Tales update. This update primarily focuses on streamlining the game’s prologue, making it easier for new players to jump into the action and experience the world of Dying Light 2.

The prologue improvements have been implemented to create a more streamlined and accessible beginning for players. The objectives have been refined to be more readable and easier to follow, minimizing confusion and frustration. New tutorials have been added to further guide players through the initial stages of the game, explaining key mechanics and concepts. The wording of tutorial prompts and in-game instructions has also been adjusted for clarity and conciseness. Weapon balancing in the early game ensures that players have a satisfying and engaging combat experience from the very start. The introduction of early-game features has been reworked, presenting them in a more gradual and intuitive manner.

In addition to the prologue improvements, Update 1.20 addresses a variety of issues reported by the community:

  • Co-op: This update brings fixes and improvements for online co-op so that you can play with friends and family during the holidays.
  • Gameplay: General gameplay improvements.
  • Technical: This update fixes and resolves game crashes.
  • UI: User interface improvements.

Whether you’re a seasoned parkour master or a fresh-faced survivor taking your first steps in Villedor, Update 1.20 and the Winter Tales event offer something for everyone. Jump back into Dying Light 2: Stay Human and experience the thrill of festive zombie slaying, collect exclusive rewards, and discover a more polished and engaging world than ever before. Happy holidays, and may your winter be filled with more cheer than infected!
