Dolly Parton Pleads for Restoration of Imagination Library Funding in Indiana

Call to Action against Governor Braun’s Decision

Country music legend Dolly Parton has issued an urgent appeal to Indiana Governor Mike Braun, urging him to reconsider the elimination of funding for her Imagination Library initiative, a charitable program that provides free books to young children.

Expressing their dismay, the Dollywood Foundation’s Vice Chair and President Jeff Conyers said, "We are hopeful that Governor Braun and the Indiana Legislature will continue this vital investment by restoring the state’s funding match for local Imagination Library programs."

Uniting for Every Child’s Potential

Parton emphasized the nonpartisan nature of the Imagination Library, stating, "The beauty of the Imagination Library is that it unites us all — regardless of politics — because every child deserves the chance to dream big and succeed."

The statement from Parton’s foundation further emphasized Indiana’s opportunity to prioritize the future of its youngest citizens, "Indiana’s leaders have the opportunity right now, during this legislative session, to reaffirm their commitment to our Imagination Library partnership and the future of the state’s youngest children."

Mission to Inspire a Love of Reading

Parton’s Imagination Library is dedicated to nurturing a passion for reading by providing books free of charge to children from birth to age five. By partnering with local communities, the program has extended its reach to the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, and the Republic of Ireland.

Disappointment and Hope

The decision to cut funding for the program from the proposed budget has raised concerns. Representative Maureen Bauer expressed her hope to reinstate the funding, acknowledging that the initial budget was influenced by the priorities of the new governor.

Bauer stated that removing the funding was "a disservice," highlighting the Imagination Library’s positive impact on the lives of Indiana’s children.

Parton’s Lifelong Commitment

Parton’s Imagination Library has been a cornerstone of her charitable endeavors since its launch in 1995. Inspired by her father’s inability to read, she has worked tirelessly to foster a love of reading among young children.

Today, Parton’s program reaches millions of kids around the world each month, offering them the gift of free books and the opportunity to embark on a lifelong journey of learning and imagination.

Call to Action for a Brighter Future

Representatives from Parton and Governor Braun have not yet provided any official statements. However, the public is encouraged to support the Imagination Library’s mission by contacting their local representatives and urging them to restore funding for this vital program.

By uniting our voices, we can ensure that every child in Indiana, regardless of their background, has the chance to experience the joy of reading and the boundless possibilities that it holds.
