Fort Collins Man Arrested, Faces Multiple Charges in Connection to Missing Missouri Teen
Fort Collins, Colorado – Maximilian Bondrescu, a 44-year-old registered sex offender residing in Fort Collins, has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors following the discovery of a missing teenage girl from Missouri at his residence last month. The arrest culminates an investigation that spanned multiple states and highlights the critical role of cybercrime units in protecting vulnerable children.
According to a news release from Fort Collins Police Services, Bondrescu faces serious charges, including felony second-degree kidnapping, sexual assault on a child, second-degree assault, and false imprisonment. Additionally, he is charged with several misdemeanors, including failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements, child abuse, harboring a minor, and obstructing a peace officer.
The investigation began on April 18 when a detective from the Missouri Cyber Crimes Task Force contacted the Fort Collins Police Cyber Crimes Unit, indicating a potential missing juvenile from Missouri might be in the Fort Collins area. The Fort Collins unit, known for its expertise in child exploitation cases, immediately initiated an investigation.
Detectives swiftly focused on a residence within the city and secured a search warrant for the property. Upon entering the home, officers encountered Bondrescu, who initially denied the presence of any girl on the premises. However, a thorough search of the residence revealed the missing teenager.
Bondrescu was promptly taken into custody and booked into the Larimer County Jail. His bond has been set at $500,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court for a hearing on May 5, according to online court records. As of May 2, Bondrescu has not retained legal counsel, according to the Fort Collins Office of the District Attorney in the Eighth Judicial District.
The charges against Bondrescu stem from the disappearance of a girl who was reported missing from Boone County, Missouri, which is part of the Columbia metropolitan area. The teenager was first reported missing on December 6, 2024, according to reports. Information suggests this was her first time running away from home. Prior to her disappearance, she reportedly mentioned to schoolmates her intention to travel to Colorado.
The arrest affidavit reveals that the girl’s phone and social media activity ceased abruptly on December 6. Four months later, in mid-April, she allegedly contacted someone, stating she was “in a different state.” The individual she contacted shared this information with a friend, who subsequently notified law enforcement.
Investigators utilized the girl’s Instagram account and information obtained from Meta to pinpoint an address associated with Bondrescu. Further investigation revealed that Bondrescu allegedly rented a vehicle to travel to Missouri, where he met the girl and transported her back to Colorado.
According to the affidavit, when police arrived at Bondrescu’s home to execute the search warrant, he claimed there was no child present but conceded there "may be an adult female.” The missing girl was eventually found concealed in a bedroom closet.
The girl provided a statement to police, indicating that she had been communicating with Bondrescu since November 2024. She stated that Bondrescu picked her up in the middle of the night. Upon arriving at his residence, Bondrescu allegedly wrapped her in a blanket and carried her inside to conceal her identity.
The girl also stated that two other individuals resided in the house, but she never interacted with them. Bondrescu allegedly told her that these individuals would face consequences if they discovered her presence. She claimed to have requested to return home in January and February, but Bondrescu allegedly said he lacked the financial resources to facilitate her return. When questioned about her options if she had attempted to leave, the girl stated that it was cold outside and she did not know anyone to ask for assistance.
To avoid being overheard by his roommates, Bondrescu reportedly used a sound machine in his room while communicating with the girl. She also alleged that Bondrescu confiscated her identification and other personal items. Bondrescu, in the arrest affidavit, denied any sexual contact with the girl and stated that "she was only at the house for a few weeks."
The girl told police that Bondrescu let her out and made her work for his company, FoCo Sno GO, which offers snow clearing and de-icing services.
According to the girl, Bondrescu made her wear a mask while shoveling snow to hide her identity and age.
Fort Collins Police Assistant Chief Kristy Volesky emphasized the significance of cybercrime units in safeguarding children: “The importance of the work done by the Fort Collins Police Cyber Crime Unit, and similar units across the nation play a vital role in helping to keep our children safe. Had it not been for the diligent work of these detectives, the juvenile could have continued to be victimized.”
Authorities are urging anyone who hired Bondrescu’s company, FoCo Sno GO, to contact Detective David Guy of Fort Collins Police Services at (970) 416-2026. They are also seeking information from anyone else who may have relevant details about this case.
The investigation is ongoing.
