Chuck Todd Unleashes Scathing Criticism of Former President Biden
Former NBC News "Meet the Press" anchor Chuck Todd has delivered a blistering critique of former President Joe Biden, accusing him of prioritizing his political ambitions over the well-being of his own family. In a recent appearance on "The Warning" podcast, hosted by Lincoln Project co-founder Steve Schmidt, Todd didn’t hold back his harsh assessment of Biden’s motivations and legacy.
Todd’s appearance on the podcast delved into the reasons behind the Democratic Party’s loss in the 2024 election and his perspective on the media’s role in navigating a potential second Trump administration. However, the conversation took a sharp turn when Todd focused on what he perceived as Biden’s failings.
"You know, Joe Biden never should have been there in the first place, right? Number one, he shouldn’t have run for president [in 2020]," Todd asserted, setting the stage for his more personal and cutting remarks.
Todd’s criticism centered on the timing of Biden’s presidential run, particularly in light of the challenges faced by his family. He pointed to the struggles of Biden’s children, including Hunter Biden’s legal troubles and the addiction issues reportedly faced by multiple members of the family, including Beau Biden’s widow, as evidence of a family in distress.
"I completely got so angry at Joe Biden, the man, when I read the transcript of the Hunter Biden trial, and when I realized that not one, not two, but three Biden children, and I count Beau’s widow, were all dealing with drug problems in 2018. And Joe Biden said, ‘Now’s a perfect time to run for president, because who cares about our family?’" Todd stated, his frustration palpable.
He went on to dismantle what he described as a carefully constructed image of Biden as a deeply caring family man. "I have to tell you something about Joe Biden. There’s this mythology about Joe Biden, that the man cared so much, it’s all bulls—," Todd declared, using blunt language to emphasize his point.
Todd accused Biden of cultivating this "myth" throughout his decades-long political career, portraying himself as an individual driven by familial devotion. In reality, according to Todd, Biden was a "craven political animal" consumed by a relentless pursuit of the presidency. "[He] was desperate, that considered a run for president every four years that he was eligible," Todd added, suggesting a pattern of ambition overriding personal considerations.
These remarks mark a significant escalation in Todd’s criticism of Biden. Since leaving NBC News in January after nearly two decades with the network, Todd has become increasingly vocal in his disapproval of the former president. In December, he suggested that Biden was "emotionally incapable" of leading the country and argued that he probably shouldn’t have sought a second term.
Todd has also criticized Biden’s actions regarding his son Hunter Biden. Specifically, Todd slammed Biden for potentially issuing a blanket pardon to Hunter, covering a decade of potential offenses, before leaving office. He argued that such a move, coupled with Biden’s accusations that the Justice Department unfairly targeted his son, would be "damaging" to the country.
"You have the leading Democrat in America and the leading Republican in America both agreeing on one thing: the Justice Department has been politicized. That is absolutely – that is long-term damaging," Todd asserted in December, highlighting the potential consequences of such actions.
He further elaborated on the dangers of setting a precedent for blanket pardons, suggesting that it could create a system where every outgoing administration shields its members from accountability. "So now we’re in a situation where every party is going to come in, and as they leave, everybody gets their security blanket pardon. ‘OK, how long do you want it? You want a 10-year window?’ Guess what? There’s now a precedent for it and that’s what’s so damaging about this decision," Todd declared.
Todd’s recent comments and past criticisms raise questions about the long-term implications of his perspective, now voiced freely outside the confines of a major news network. He posits that Biden’s actions have not only tarnished his own legacy but have also contributed to a broader erosion of public trust in the justice system and political institutions.
The sharp tone and explicit condemnation of Biden’s character, family values, and motivations have caught the attention of the media. The former anchor’s remarks may signal a notable shift in the punditry surrounding the former president. These comments add fuel to an already intense fire of political discourse.
Biden’s office has yet to respond to Todd’s recent remarks. Nevertheless, the criticisms from a respected journalist who once held a prominent position at a major news network are sure to resonate within the political landscape. It remains to be seen how Todd’s outspoken stance will influence the ongoing debate surrounding Biden’s legacy and the future of the Democratic Party.
