German Biathletes Fail to Medal Again in Men’s Individual Race at World Championships

After strong performances in the sprint and pursuit races, the German biathlon team has yet to claim a medal in the individual event at the World Championships in Lenzerheide. Philipp Horn finished seventh with two penalty minutes, while Johannes Kühn placed 12th in his first individual race at the competition.

Despite their disappointing results in the sprint and pursuit, the team saw their performance as a sign of improvement. Horn’s 17th place in the pursuit was the best result for the German men so far at the World Championships.

The gold medal went to France’s Eric Perrot, who edged out Italy’s Tommaso Giacomel by 52.4 seconds despite having one penalty minute. Bronze was earned by another Frenchman, Quentin Fillon Maillet, who finished 1:59.5 minutes behind Perrot.

Title defender and record world champion Johannes Thingnes Bö missed five shots in the race, causing him to finish outside of the top 10. The last German medal in the men’s individual event was won by Benedikt Doll, who earned bronze in 2021. The last German to win gold in the individual event was Arnd Peiffer in 2019.
