Hamann Voices Concerns Over Musiala’s Performance, Prefers Wirtz
Former German international Dietmar Hamann has expressed criticism towards Bayern Munich’s playmaker Jamal Musiala, suggesting that he would favor Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz in a direct comparison.
Hamann’s Critique of Musiala
Hamann lamented Musiala’s recent tendency to go down too easily in duels and his excessive complaining and arguing. "I would have a talk with Musiala," he said. "He’s been going down a lot in tackles for weeks now and is constantly complaining and arguing, which I’ve never seen before. He’s developed this habit, for whatever reason."
Hamann believes this behavior is detrimental to Musiala’s game. "He’s been playing decently in recent weeks, but not really well," he said. "These are small things that creep in. It’s distracting. His concentration suffers, and so does his game."
Wirtz vs. Musiala: Hamann’s Preference
When comparing Musiala to Wirtz, Hamann gives the edge to the Leverkusen youngster. "A Musiala, when his dribbling works, which is not the case at the moment, helps the team," said Hamann. "A Wirtz makes every single player better. I would always prefer the player who makes everyone better than the one who only makes the team better."
The two young stars will face each other on Saturday in a top-of-the-table clash between Leverkusen and Munich.
Possible Bayern Pairing of Musiala and Wirtz
Hamann is skeptical about a potential pairing of Musiala and Wirtz at Bayern Munich. "I don’t think it would work," he said. "One of them would suffer. If he (Wirtz) comes, he would have to be the top earner because he is the best German player, probably the best player in Europe."
Kimmich’s Contract Situation
On the subject of Joshua Kimmich’s contract negotiations, Hamann would advise the German national team captain to consider a move abroad. "I see it like Jogi (Löw)," he said. "It’s the last chance to go abroad, to a very good club, to a top club. Most would take him on a free transfer. I would also tend to do something new."
Former national team coach Löw had recently expressed similar sentiments.
