Fonseca Ascends to Career-Best Ranking after Buenos Aires Title Triumph
Joao Fonseca’s meteoric rise continued as he surged 31 places in the ATP rankings to reach a career-high of World No. 68. The victory in Buenos Aires, his maiden ATP title, came just one day after he had achieved the same feat on the Challenger Tour in Concepcion.
At the age of 18, Fonseca displayed nerves of steel in front of a fervent home crowd, defeating four Argentines, including the highly-rated Francisco Cerundolo in the final. Cerundolo, a former World No. 19, also climbed two spots to No. 26.
Despite surrendering some points due to a three-month doping suspension, the hierarchy remains largely unchanged at the summit of the rankings. World No. 1 Jannik Sinner still holds a comfortable lead over Alexander Zverev (2) and Carlos Alcaraz (3).
The only change within the Top 10 this week is the ascent of Daniil Medvedev to No. 6 (+2), after reaching the semifinals in Marseille. Alex De Minaur (8) slipped down two places after skipping last week’s events.
Humbert’s Marseille Double Propels Him Up the Rankings
Ugo Humbert celebrated a triumphant return to the ATP Tour by capturing his second Marseille title, repeating his 2024 victory. This impressive performance catapulted him 3 spots up to World No. 14, just one shy of his previous career-high.
Other Notable Ranking Movements
Hamad Medjedovic (SRB): The Marseille finalist reached a career-best No. 73, a 23-place improvement.
Miomir Kecmanovic (SRB): The Delray Beach champion climbed 14 spots to No. 42.
Alejandro Davidovich (ESP): The Delray Beach finalist re-entered the Top 50 at No. 50 (+10).
