American Tourist Vanishes While Jet Skiing in Thailand

An American tourist, identified as 37-year-old Nina Ng, has reportedly gone missing in Thailand while jet skiing near Patong Beach in Phuket. The disappearance sparked an immediate search effort by local authorities and concerned citizens. Ng, a Chinese-American nurse and the founder and president of the humanitarian organization Help Me Live USA, was reported missing on Thursday after failing to return her rented jet ski within the agreed-upon timeframe.

Saranuwat Nasok, the operator of the jet ski rental business, alerted authorities after discovering the abandoned watercraft approximately one kilometer from the beach. He stated to Asia Pacific Press, "I found the jet ski parked under a kilometer from the beach. Her belongings and life jacket were on it. I called my friends for help, and we searched for around an hour but we still couldn’t find her."

The circumstances surrounding Ng’s disappearance remain unclear, adding to the growing concern for her well-being. Nasok recounted a conversation with a local boat driver, who allegedly witnessed Ng removing her life jacket and entering the water. "I asked a boat driver working in the area, and he said he saw the tourist take off her life jacket to jump into the water," Nasok reported. This detail, if accurate, raises questions about Ng’s intentions and the potential factors contributing to her disappearance.

Video footage purportedly captured at the scene shows first responders mobilizing on the beach to initiate a search for the missing tourist. The U.S. Embassy in Bangkok has been notified of Ng’s disappearance, according to local authorities.

Nina Ng’s background reveals a dedicated humanitarian deeply committed to assisting vulnerable populations around the world. According to the Help Me Live USA website, Ng was born and raised in New York City and has spent over 15 years working as an emergency medicine registered nurse, hospital administrator, and humanitarian leader. Her organization, Help Me Live USA, focuses on providing humanitarian relief to people affected by conflict, with a particular emphasis on areas like the Gaza Strip.

The organization detailed Ng’s extensive experience in crisis zones, stating, "Ng has served as an emergency medicine registered nurse, hospital administrator, and humanitarian leader for over 15 years…she has worked in numerous conflict settings and war zones including Haiti, Iraq, Bangladesh, Mexico, Ukraine, Sierra Leone, and Gaza."

Driven by a profound desire to make a difference, Ng transitioned away from traditional hospital work in the United States to dedicate more of her time to humanitarian aid. "Several years ago, Ms. Ng left the hospital setting in the United States in order to dedicate more of her time to humanitarian aid. Her calling to help underserved populations has been so strong that she founded her own non-profit organization, Help Me Live USA, in 2023," the organization explained.

Help Me Live USA also described Ng as a "nomad" who travels extensively between work assignments. "Nina is currently a nomad who lives in different parts of the globe in between work assignments. She has a great love for children, nature, and animals," the organization noted. Recent posts on an Instagram account believed to belong to Ng show images taken from Lebanon and Jordan, suggesting her ongoing involvement in international aid efforts.

The timing of Ng’s disappearance coincides with other reports of incidents involving tourists in Thailand. Earlier reports detailed the tragic death of a law student who was killed by an elephant while vacationing in the country, highlighting potential safety concerns for travelers. Additionally, reports emerged of American tourists being attacked by sharks at a resort area in the Bahamas, serving as a grim reminder of the inherent risks associated with travel and recreational activities in foreign locations.

Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into Ng’s disappearance, exploring all possible scenarios, including the possibility of an accident, foul play, or a deliberate act. The search efforts are being coordinated with local law enforcement, marine rescue teams, and volunteers. The focus remains on locating Ng and bringing closure to her family and friends.

The disappearance of Nina Ng has prompted an outpouring of concern and support from her colleagues, friends, and the humanitarian community. Many are holding out hope for her safe return, while others are grappling with the uncertainty and the potential for tragedy. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information about Ng’s whereabouts to come forward and assist in the search efforts. The U.S. State Department and Help Me Live USA have yet to release official statements regarding the matter. The situation remains fluid as the search intensifies, and the world waits for updates on the fate of the dedicated humanitarian.
