AfD Calls for German Non-Intervention in Ukraine
Newenhagen, Germany – With the German federal election on the horizon, the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) is advocating for Germany to stay out of the Ukraine conflict.
AfD co-founder and honorary chairman Alexander Gauland declared, "This is not our war." AfD federal chairman Tino Chrupalla echoed this sentiment, stating, "And this war is of no concern to us." The anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine approaches on February 24.
Protesters gathered outside the community center in Neuenhagen, chanting "Nazis out" and holding signs that read "We are the firewall." Police were present to maintain order.
Gauland addressed a crowd of nearly 400 people inside the hall, condemning the war as "wrong and unjust," but emphasizing that it is a conflict between Russia and Ukraine, not Russia and Germany. "And this war is of no concern to us," he asserted.
Chrupalla accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of attempting to "make us a warring party by claiming that Ukraine is also defending our freedom." Both Chrupalla and Gauland called for Germany to cease funding foreign wars.
Chrupalla expressed confidence in the AfD’s performance in the upcoming election, particularly in eastern Germany. "In the east, the heath will tremble," he declared, predicting that the AfD would win electoral districts one after another.
Chrupalla addressed the possibility of the AfD assuming government responsibility, stating, "We will definitely govern, and maybe at some point we won’t even need a coalition partner."
René Springer, AfD regional chairman for Brandenburg, criticized the federal government’s migration policy. He claimed, "It is reality that we now have a murder by an immigrant every day, two gang rapes a day, 24 knife attacks, always with severely injured victims, massacres like recently in Magdeburg (…)"
Gauland asserted that former Chancellor Angela Merkel "opened the floodgates so wide in 2015 that nobody can walk across a Christmas market anymore without being murdered." He accused those who support the Green Party of being unwilling to address the issue of illegal mass immigration.
A recent poll showed the AfD leading in Brandenburg, where the party is classified as a suspected far-right extremist group by state intelligence services.
