Following the revelation that Trump’s Department of Justice (DOJ) had instructed federal prosecutors to dismiss a criminal case against New York City Mayor Eric Adams, a wave of criticism has swept through the city’s political and community circles.
Community Advocates and Lawmakers Express Outrage
New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams decried the move as a betrayal of the city’s values and a glaring example of the power gap between the privileged and underprivileged. "Mayor Adams adopted a strategy of selling out marginalized New Yorkers to avoid accountability," Williams said.

Lander expressed concern that Adams’ reliance on Trump’s favor could compromise New York City’s ability to resist federal policies that threaten the well-being of its residents. "When the president harms or threatens New York City, the mayor will be unable to fight back," Lander said.
He highlighted the potential for cuts to essential services, such as education and healthcare, as a result of Adams’ perceived obligation to Trump.
