Potential Deportations to Afghanistan: Niedersachsen Prepares

Hannover, Germany – The German state of Niedersachsen is gearing up for the possibility of further deportations to Afghanistan, despite the ongoing violence and instability in the country.

Statement from the Ministry of the Interior

"We are constantly preparing for the possibility of a flight taking place," said a spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior in Hannover. "However, we do not currently have any concrete information about an impending flight."

The spokesperson emphasized that the state of Niedersachsen plays a supporting role in the deportation process. "We provide data on individuals who we believe could be eligible for deportation," said the spokesperson. "The decision on who is actually deported lies with the Federal Ministry of the Interior."

Number of Potential Deportees

The Ministry of the Interior estimates that a double-digit number of individuals in Niedersachsen are being considered for deportation. "These individuals have committed serious crimes," the spokesperson noted.

Obstacles to Mass Deportations

The spokesperson acknowledged the challenges involved in deporting large numbers of individuals to Afghanistan due to the security situation there. "Mass deportations are currently not feasible," said the spokesperson.

Previous Deportations from Niedersachsen

In August of 2023, five men from Niedersachsen were among 28 individuals deported from Germany to Afghanistan. The crimes committed by these individuals included manslaughter, rape, assault, child abuse, fraud, and theft.

Status of Afghan Citizens in Niedersachsen

In June 2023, 41 Afghan citizens in Niedersachsen were classified as multiple offenders, serious criminals, or individuals with outstanding deportation orders. The Ministry of the Interior did not provide an updated figure in response to inquiries.

Political Reaction

The decision to resume deportations to Afghanistan has sparked controversy in Germany. Critics argue that it is inhumane to send people back to a war-torn country where their lives may be in danger.

Government’s Defense

The German government maintains that it is necessary to deport certain individuals who pose a threat to public safety. The government also argues that it is important to uphold the rule of law and deter future illegal immigration.

Ongoing Situation

The situation regarding deportations to Afghanistan is fluid and complex. The German government is facing pressure from both domestic and international organizations to halt deportations to Afghanistan due to the ongoing violence and humanitarian crisis in the country. However, the government has indicated that it will continue to deport certain individuals who it deems to be a threat to society.
