Igloo Recalls Over a Million Coolers Due to Fingertip Amputation Risk

Igloo Recalls Over 1 Million Coolers Due to Fingertip Amputation Hazards

Igloo has issued a recall on over 1 million coolers after receiving a dozen reports of people receiving fingertip injuries, including amputations.

The recall involves 1.06 million 90 Qt. Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers manufactured before January 2024. These coolers were sold between $80 and $140 and are available in multiple color combinations.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has received 12 reports of fingertip injuries related to these coolers, including:

  • Four incidents of fingertip amputations
  • Two incidents of fingertip injuries requiring stitches
  • Six incidents of fingertip bruising or lacerations

The recall notice states that the coolers "pose fingertip amputation and crushing hazards." The injuries occurred when users’ fingertips became trapped in the cooler’s handle.

Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled coolers immediately and contact Igloo for a free replacement handle.

To determine if your cooler is affected by the recall, check the bottom of the cooler for a circle imprinted with an arrow pointing to the month of manufacture. The last two digits in the circle’s center indicate the year of manufacture. Coolers manufactured before January 2024 are included in the recall.

The recalled coolers were sold from January 2019 through January 2025 by the following retailers:

  • Academy Sports + Outdoors
  • Amazon.com
  • Bass Pro Shops
  • Cabela’s
  • Camping World
  • Dick’s Sporting Goods
  • Home Depot
  • Hy-Vee
  • Lowe’s
  • REI
  • Sportsman’s Warehouse
  • Target
  • Walmart

The coolers were also sold in Canada and Mexico.

In addition to the recall, Igloo recommends the following safety precautions when using any cooler:

  • Keep hands and fingers away from the handle when opening or closing the cooler.
  • Do not overfill the cooler.
  • Secure the cooler properly when transporting it.

Consumers who have experienced fingertip injuries related to Igloo 90 Qt. Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers should seek medical attention immediately.
